Acer Iconia W700 Volume Increase button no longer changes volume. Starts Windows Narrator instead.

For some reason the Volume Increase button on my W700 no longer controls the volume.  It launches Windows 8 Narrator. The Volume Decrease button works fine.

Where is the setting to change the button assignments.

Thanks.

i am having the same problem.  the only way to fix it is to restart. every time you press the up key it says enter?

The Setting I found to turn it off was in PC Settings > Ease of Access.

I'm having the same issues, turned off everything under Ease of Access but still the problem isn't solved. Thinking of returning my unit but I suspect it wouldn't make a difference since this is probably a software issue. I can only make the volume up work again if I force restart (i.e. press and hold the power button for a long time). using the charms bar to restart, sleep or shut down does not make the problem go away )):

W700 for its intelligent design seems to be slightly buggy, and this comment is from someone who has used it for less than 12 hours

I too am having this issue - the Volume Up button starts the most annoying application since Adobe Bridge - Microsoft Narrator - but doesn't touch the volume, and the Power Button simply doesn't do anything!

This is a very big problem for me and I hope the issue gets resolved soon!..

Okay, I don't know if this is going to help at all but I just opened Action Center (Control Panel > System and Security) and there was a message saying something like 'One of your devices needs to install software to work properly', I clicked it, waited a few minutes (meanwhile trying to enable Windows Defender) and the sleep and volume buttons miraculously started working!!

Has anyone figured out a better solution for this?  I've tried all the options listed here, but none of them seem to work for me.  I don't have any messages stating that one of my devices needs to install software, and the "ease of access" option isn't working either.  I did a chat with Acer, and they don't have an answer yet.  This is getting really frustrating.  It works fine for a few minutes if i restart, but eventually it switches back to the Narrator function.  Anyone else got suggestions?

Hi brickjr, I appear to have fixed my issue now as the fix I posted above turned out to not work. Not sure if it will be the same fix for you but thought I would share just in case.
I have disabled Narrator by opening C:/Windows/System32 and taking ownership of Narrator.exe and renaming it to something else.
The buttons issue appears to sort itself after holding the Windows key on the front of the tablet for about 2 seconds then trying a button.
Hope this helps and hope this can provide more detail for any technicians working on this issue, if there are any.
    Cheers,
    Ryan

Acer is releasing BIOS 2.12 to address concerns with  the Volume key launching Narrator. This update should be posted next week. I will communitcate once it is published. The file will be posted at http://www.acer.com, click on Support, then click Drivers and Manuals.

I installed the new BIOS and was unable to see the problem you are describing. Can you please give me a complete step by step on how to reproduce it?

The button to increase  the sound (at right of the tablet) don't run. If i push on, volume don't increase. The button to decrease volume and the bottom on/off are ok.

I was unable to duplicate the problem you described. The BIOS update worked as expected for me. You may need to contact Acer support for your region, or try reloading your system.

Downloaded the bios yesterday and it fixed the problem for me, but today when I plugged in earphones and tried to turn up the volume it started the narrator again. Now the +volume button does not work, neither with earphones or without them.

I found in settings that (windows-button)+(volume up button) is set to start the narrator, so I turned this of so that the problem is not as annoying as before, however i does not solve the problem (the volume up button does not work).
