Both devices have a single M.2 PCIe/NVMe port for SSD and you can install OS on it.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Any NVMe will work, but I usually recommend samsung 960 and 970 evo or pro. The PRO version lasts longer(has more write cycles) and longer warranty compared to evo.

    Hello!

Happy holidays! Just got my acer nitro 5  and got an Samsung EVO 860 500 GB SATA. That will work as well right?

May I also ask what ram should I purchase so I can upgrade it as well? I got the 4gb variant. Not sure though what brand of ram I'll be getting.

    Thank you again!

the nitro 5 has 2 RAM slots and each can take up to 16GB DDR4, which means the maximum is 32GB. I wouldn't advice you to purchase 4GB, because soon the new requirement will be 16GB for gaming if it is not already as there are games that use more than 6GB RAM already(windows already uses more than 2gb + another 6 from the game that is well above 8Gb).

Purchasing 8GB or 2x8GB or even 1x16GB will be better, especially 2x8GB, which will work in dual channel.

I dont think Nvme is supported . Online  literature seems to suggest SATA M.2

Thank you all for the swift answers! Last question, hope i'm not bothering anyone too much but does adding the SSD and RAM void my warranty with ACER?

Unless there are any void stickers preventing you from opening the panel, no. If you live in the US void stickers don't matter and they are illegal to be on products.
