Hi guys,

I am struggling with my Helios 500, I bought a Samsung M2 SSD 860 EVO 1tb, I tried to install it into the 2nd open M2 slot, but the bios would just not detect it. I am not sure why, If I remove the oem 256 and place the Samsung it does detect but then the 256 is not picking up in the bios. Could my 2nd slot be faulty or am I doing something wrong.

This is what I was trying to install

    Answer ✓
It's an m2 NVMe port, not an m2 SATA port.
  • Hi,
Could you please post the Disk management snip, others also having this problem, my guess is that these models support only RAID setup but I am not 100% sure it's the case, also please run Intel Rapid Storage and check whether your stock SSD and HDD in RAID but don't make any changes in the IRST software, just show me with snips of it, like mine.

All I can find is this

This model has Two M.2 card slots for NAND Flash Solid State Drive and supports :
    512 GB / 1 TB, 2D NVMe, RAID 0 SSD
    256 GB / 512 GB, PCIe Gen3 8 Gb/s up to 4 lanes, NVMe
    128 / 256 / 512 GB, SATA 6 Gb/s

Which doesnt explain, could you link me to anything?

Use software like Aida64 or HWinfo to check under Windows if the drive is detected. Also check peripherals. Can be that the drive need to be formatted to be seen on Windows.

Bios doesnt even detect it. Still cant find any documentation that will tell me the 2nd slot only supports NVME, and not M2 SSD.

Hey guys, please has anybody got any info for me? No where can I confirm on paper that the 2nd port doesnt accept a M2 SSD?

I guess you have your answer. If the bios doesn't detect it, there is not much you can do.
