the quality of the hinge is so cheap. how can both of mine, bought 2 of them cause i loved the price, and performance I got for the $.  But at right about 1 year, both of them have their hinges broken on the right hinge where now cant even open the screen.  im pretty handy,   but this is just broken plastic, and then the screen separates and hav to hold it tightly just to move the screen or it will become totally separated.   man i loved these units till i saw the build quality of the case.  Isnt there anything acer can do, I have read about others having the same problem.  C'mon acer, fix this. I guess its no wonder the are less $ than other comparable models.  Acer can, can you help me???  I am actually shopping for another laptop but now have to consider another brand.

Good luck with both. Few want to go back to the heavy metal laptops of a decade or more ago like my XP era GateWay. Hinge areas have always been a laptop weakness with all consumer-level mfrs not only with mechanical failures but also with conductor breaks in the video ribbon cables that must thread through them.  The solution for me has been to refrain from opening & closing lids so often or every time I step away from the machine. Hard to break that habit. Duct tape has prevented further hinge area damage in my still eminently useable HP 17.3. Jack E/NJ

thanks Jack,  i guess your right,  just leave it open and that would mean less wear and tear and it should last longer. but asking customer to not close the case is not a option. make the hinge so that it doesnt break so easily, i mean the hinge on our macs have never broken and thay are not from 15 years ago and solid metal.  i an kinda convinced acer has some crappy hinges in thier units

i talked to acer,  2 months over warranty,  and one was broken b4 warranty,  but they want 354.99 to repair, plus shipping,    i paid 599/each.  hummm im no rocket sceintist but the cost of repairs makes that a ridiculous option from acer

Seems close to the price of a refurb. Which is likely what you get with your drive inside. Jack E/NJ

Since you are good with your hands; take out the glue gun, band saw, duct tape & have a look at the video.
