"intel trusted execution engine interface has a drive problem" error in Win 10 on Aspire E-15

Ever since I installed Win 10 on my Aspire E-15, the Security Center keeps giving me the device error message "Intel trusted execution engine interface has a drive problem" - but when I go to Device Manager it says no new driver is available. When I download and try to install the Acer version, it says the version I currently have is newer than the one downloaded:
Driver x64\TXEI.inf  Package version 1.1.0.1064,  Installed version 2.0.0.1094.
So why do I keep getting the error? BTW, I did a clean install of Win 10 in 2016 and have kept it up to date.

p.s. that should be "driver" problem

BTW, if I install the old driver over the new one, won't Windows keep trying to update to the new one every time Windows updates itself??

@NVSteve ; What was the machine's original factory installed operating system? TXE is part of the mainboard hardware that provides an extra level of security against malware code sneaking into legitimate initial startup and Windows driver & system code. In other words, if its driver fails to load or loads improperly then, for example, Windows might let you run an infected executable that it ordinarily wouldn't let you do if the TXE hardware was enabled. In general, hardware drivers depend on whether you installed ACER-flavored Win10 or MS-generic Win10. ACER designed mainboards sometimes won't work properly with generic Win10. Jack E/NJ

My Aspire E-15 came with Win 8.1 installed. Instead of just doing an upgrade, I did a clean install of Windows 10 (from Microsoft ISO) because I had read that works better than the upgrade, and because I didn't want all the Acer bloatware I didn't use and which seemed to slow down the system. Computer works fine with Windows 10 with 2 minor exceptions -- the notice that the Intel Trusted Execution Engine driver has a problem, and sometimes when Windows Update tries to update while I'm working, it locks up the computer (did it often at first, but not often lately).

Should I install the older version of the Intel Trusted Execution Engine driver (1.1.0.1064) I downloaded from the Acer site in place of the newer Windows version (2.0.0.1094) I have now?  In the event I have problems, can I go back to the 2.0 version?  Or, as I mentioned, will Windows try to overwrite it every time it updates?

    Thanks.

  • Yes you can revert to the acer txe driver as it is optimized for your notebook!
