Laptop freezes only when running steam, or launching a game through steam. Blizzard, origin, standalone are all ok.

Updated all drivers, disabled gsync, updated bios, ran memory test and hdd test.

This was a fresh install when i first got laptop and reinstalled windows and tried it again and it still freezes.

Steam support is useless.

Ideas?

This seems more like a steam issue; i too am facing longer than usual login times even to login in into steam client.

I think its a steam issue too, but their support is beyond useless. Telling me I need a pc specialist to fix the pc. Tried explaining steam was the first program installed and like this since I opened the box. They closed the ticket.

Opened new ticket, and they referred to specialist and closed the ticket. They are beyond useless.

I wanted to doublecheck anything that could be an issue here. Anyone else encountering freezing with anything run only in steam?

Check if your SSD has momentum cache enabled. I disabled that and that "lag" while logging in is gone now.

I had freezing issues on my Helios 300 G3-571 when I updated to Windows 10 1803. I fixed it by updating all drivers, and then going to the Acer driver download page and installing the stock Intel drivers listed for my model(ACHI, Chipset, Turbo Boost, VGA). I have no issues with Steam, so maybe this will help you too. Create a restore point to be safe.

I have a liteon ssd, where is the momentum cache option? Isnt that only with a crucial drive?

I updated all of the drivers from the acer model specific page including the intel. Would you say install the intel drivers over the acer drivers for the ACHI, Chipset, Turbo Boost, VGA?

I just disabled write caching to the drive, dont think thats the momentum you were talking about.

Write caching... is needed to speed up drive write speeds. Do not disable that.

Momentum cache is specially turned on and off using specific disk software - not limited to certain brands. I don't think you have this since you sound unsure of this.

Disabling write caching did not solve issue. It still freezes.

All new and updated drivers and bios.

    Don't disable write cache!

One more thing you can try... uninstall Steam from C drive Program Files, and install it on a different drive and see if that helps. I  resolved mine by installing Steam on D (I created two partitions on my primary - C for windows and D for games). Also, in case you feel there is less space on the drive, you can select a different drive when installing games via steam.
