Undervolting doesn't help, just increase max speed. Cooling system works on maximum. Any ideas ? Idk, this laptop has the best coollers on market. What can I to do ? My laptop shuts off from time to time, because of overheating

    1. Try removing all those overlay software - these add to the CPU cycles.
    2. Try getting a USB fan that blows air on the areas to the north of keyboard that tend to get heated up.
    3. A laptop cooler too could help, or you could even simply bump up the laptop height by an inch or so using felt pads under its legs.
    4. Use ThrottleStop to undervolt... on my G3 572, it pulled temps down by about 20 or so degrees (80-90 with spikes at 93 down to 60-70 with spikes to 75-80).
    5. Limit FPS to max of what your screen or monitor supports - my monitor and laptop screen are both limited to 60 Hz so i set up mine to 60 FPS and vsync where possible. This helps avoid unnecessary CPU cycles on additional frames that aren't even visible anyways.
    6. Turn of those graphics options that you feel wont' make much difference visually - for example nvidia hair option in witcher 3 pushes my 1060 from 60% to near 100% while barely making any visible difference. Turning it off keeps my GPU at around 60%.
Adjust power plan - using performance keeps all cores on irrespective of use, and keep in mind, an active CPU means active heat generation.
My power plan has processor min at 0, and has all cores to park enabled. This helps push those cores to idle mode whenever possible further reducing temperatures and power use.
I even removed GEforce experience and tune my games to my liking - personally I feel it only adds to unnecessary load.

TECH_MAN even without undervolting this laptop should never reach 97c or shut off.

morrison8996 Just save yourself some time and install clean windows 10,then install all acer drivers from site, with this clean windows install games/benchmarks which were previously overheating your laptop and try them. If problems still occurs just send it for warranty asap, even without undervolting, windows optimisation tricks and cooling pad helios 500 should never overheat.

Even when playing demanding (W3,MH:World etc) games my fans never went maximum speed and cpu never overheated, something is clearly wrong with your unit, but judging how many things can be a culprit (drivers, programs, windows updates) its just faster to reinstall windows.

The result is the same on clean Windows 10 1709.  Btw even in stress tests the temperature couldn't reach 100 C, the videocard reaches only 50-55 C, and this is pretty strange. The radiator behind is warm, but not hot, I can touch it without any problems. The next thing is very fast temperature changing from 60 to 100 in one second.

Contact Acer Support. This laptop needs a repaste. My Helios 500 is idling at 42°C and rarely even reach 75°C under full load.

This, if gpu is 55C then only cpu is problematic.
If radiator is only lukewarm then it could be cooling problem.

Maybe they forget to put paste on cpu lol

I hope the sensor is not broken :/

Follow this video except set CPU core & cache offsets to -0.140 (both) and do not set "turbo ratio limits" (which would cap CPU to 3.2ghz... you dont need that)

    https://youtu.be/N3v3o21M8gg

Also follow this video to help remove Windows annoying background resources.

I know the videos are for the Helios 300 but i also have the Helios 500 and follow the tweak I mentioned above and the win optimize guide and watch your temps plummet.

I already lowered the voltage, nothing changed. In my case, the offset lower than -0.120 is unstable. The temperature is the same: 97-100 C.

    2 solutions:
    - Contact Acer Support. CPU is probably lacking thermal paste and send to RMA to get a repaste by Acer, (4-6 weeks without computer)
    - Repaste it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph2ibK79zd8 (2 hours of work)

The second solution will most likely void warranty but it's much faster than sending the laptop to RMA.

    Whats your CPU idle %?
You're officially the first person of the hundreds Ive spoken to reach temps in the 90's + on the H500.

I can not send my laptop to re-past for now. Currently I am in another country. When I get back, I will send it. Of course I can re-past it myself, but what if the problem is in sensor, and I will lost the warranty ? So I need to wait 2+ month... I am so unlucky :(

Who ever is manufacturing these laptops needs to be more careful about thermal paste. >:|

It's highly unlikely that the sensor has a problem. Temperature sensors are built-in the CPU by Intel. Especially considering there is a sensor per CPU core, that would mean that the CPU works but all sensors are defective! That's definitely not possible.

I have repasted many laptops and it's always the same: rapidly fluctuating temps are the sign of bad contact between the CPU and the heatsink. Either not enough thermal paste, or too much. Both cases are bad.

Repaste it yourself (cheap thermal paste like Artic Silver is enough) and you will solve your issue.
  • There was a guy who had very high temps and corrected it by simply optimizing his windows and undervolting.

I suggest trying other methods before opening and repasting.

The paste itself comes on the heatsink applied by a machine.. I would be suprised if it made a huge difference.

Thanks, mate. I rly want to repaste it myself, coz I don't want to wait more than two month. Rip warranty :|
  • Well.. let us know the results after the repaste plz.
