Hello All,

Is anyone else having problems getting your Predator to detect a 2.5" SSD? I installed a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB and it isn't detected by the machine at all, it shows "none" for the slot. I have ensured the drive works by plugging it into my desktop. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated! Especially since I was escalated to engineers by support for this problem.

Thanks,
Dana Garcia

  • Hi,
Go to BIOS settings, click F9 to set it for default settings, click F10 to save and exit.

power drain: Just check the back of the unit, you can find a pin hole , unplug the charger and turn off the unit. now put a paper clip in the small pin
hole and press and hold it for 30 sec.

BIOS default: After power drain is done, power on the u nit, but as soon as you power on the unit keep pressing the F2 key so that it take you to BIOS
page. Press F9 and press Enter than press F10 and press Enter. the unit will restart

    Hi,

I tried this and the battery drain pin hole for 30 seconds, neither of them worked. The SATA1/HDD1 line in the BIOS still says "None", obviously Disk Management doesn't show the drive either being as the machine itself doesn't recognize it. I did notice that the last 3 pins on the power side of the connector don't have contacts. Could this be the problem?
  • Hi,
Could you please take a snip of the missing pins and post here, like this:

So I was wrong about it missing 3 pins, it's missing 6 pins and its that way by design. On the SATA power connector there is only 9 pins. On the power connector on the SSD there is 15 pins. See pictures below:
  • Hi,
I would suggest you to contact Acer Support centre in your region and explain the problem with these pictures.

Maybe it's just the cable which is disconnected from the motherboard inside the laptop. It's worth trying to open the panel and see if it's connected properly. Sending the laptop to RMA just for that would be a waste of resources and time.
