I have an Acer Aspire E15. Is that just a hardware problem of the wifi receiver?

On a laptop, the WiFi antenna is always fixed around screen (bezel) and closing the lid changes the orientation of antenna. So it will have an adverse effect on the speed and sometimes will even disconnect wifi.
But there is a 'unique' solution to this. After closing the screen lid, simply prop up the laptop vertically with the hinges down. The Wifi signal should return to normal.

    Hope my answer helps you.

Wifi usually shuts off,  sleeps, hibernates, or does nothing depending on how your power options are set. So open control panel. Search lid. The check to see what closing the lid is set to do. Jack E/NJ

    Hi,

Click the Screen Saver tab-> then the Power button in the lower-right corner. Then Click the Advanced tab-> Select an option from the "When I close the lid of my portable computer" pull-down menu. you can use different settings for when the laptop is on battery or on AC .

    Thanks for your replies.

Do offense, but the first two are a little silly - if I can report wifi speed with the lid closed, it must mean it stays on, no? :D

Spelunker's reply makes sense, and that is a pity, because I use an external monitor sitting atop my laptop. So this design flaw pretty much makes it impossible to use such a setup AND have fast wifi...
