I've managed to kill all my usb 2 connections on my Aspire AM3970-ur13p. I've found a refurb motherboard on eBay but don't know the part number of my mb used for the ur13p version. I was also thinking of attempting to replace whatever component(s) on the the board that got smoked but don't know the signal chain or the ic numbers involved on the board. The freak accident occurred when a guitar string brushed an exposed prong of a wall wart and blew 110v back through my guitar and audio interface into the computer. :o There must have bee an over current protection device that prevented a total meltdown because I was able to reboot the computer and use the two rear panel usb 3 connections for mouse and key board. I'm assuming whatever ic/ic's involved are surface mount and not in dip sockets. Any and all suggestions welcomed with thanks and regards...

Since the chip are surface mounted you need to replace the entire motherboard. You may contact Acer part partners listed for the United states in the below weblink and check for the availability of the motherboard. Acer Part Partners
Here's the description and part number of the motherboard :

Thank you for the info Sharanji. Just curious about the "w/o USB 3.0" part of the description. I was under the impression from the computer specs that there are two USB 3.0 ports on the rear panel. Are they independent of the motherboard?

"w/o USB 3.0" is without USB 3.0 pots
This model supports at least 12 USB ports on both front and rear side. All are only USB 2.0 ports.

One more question if I may? I found two boards on the internet. Both boards end in 007. Would I be wrong in assuming that it represents an upgrade and that the 007 would be a compatible replacement for the 005? Many thanks for your help and responses!

Yes, I have compared both and this motherboard should be compatible for your model.
