Recently, I have purchased an ACER Laptop: ASPIRE ES 1533. The local seller has installed Windows 10 as default. Now I am trying to change to Ubuntu OS but failed due to BIOS Setting. I can't change the BOOT: UEFI to Legacy. Because this option is disabled. I have tried through updating the BIOS but the same result. I have tried through Windows Settings -> UEFI but the same result. Even I have tried through removing the Windows and converting GPT to MBR. But the same result. I can't change the UEFI to Legacy. How can I do? Can anyone help me please?

    Hello,

According to links below, legacy mode isn't supported on ES1-533 for Ubuntu.  I would suggest that you convert the disk back to GPT and then follow the procedure in link(s) below to install Ubuntu.

From a Windows admin command prompt........

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk x   (x=the disk you want to wipe and convert to GPT)
    clean
    convert GPT
    exit

rufus settings:  GPT, UEFI (non-CSM), FAT32

I have tried according to your instructions.

Now I can boot from USB but the problem is - when I enter 'Install Ubuntu' it redirect me a blank gray page. I have waited 20+ minutes but nothing happened.

N.B. I am trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

    What can I do?

I don't think you're supposed to enter 'install Ubuntu'.

I think you're supposed to click 'try Ubuntu without installing'  (testing mode)

Yes, I want to try through LIVE DVD/USB but I can't go in LIVE MODE. When I try it redirects me a blank gray page. I have waited 20+ minutes but nothing happened.

    Hi elliyas!
did you follow these simple instructions to create the live USB stick? why do you want ubuntu 16.04? what I mean, is there a specific reason why you're using an older version?

The latest version is 18.04 "Bionic Beaver" - not only is it the latest with more improvements and polish, it is also LTS good until April 2023 (2 more years than 16.04). Also, based on your needs, my suggestion would be to give linux mint XFCE a look. For older laptops it is the best imho (lighter, snappier OS) and the linux mint team puts out a really good distro: https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=258

But ACER ES1-533 doesn't meet the system requirements of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

The steps involved are to create a live linux USB stick: https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-create-a-usb-stick-on-windows

Then insert the USB, restart or power on your laptop, go into BIOS, select USB as your boot-up drive, and then click save or accept and let your computer
boot up via USB. Then you should see the linux desktop with an icon on the upper left hand side for when or if you decide to actually install and not just play around in the 'live usb' environment.

    Hope that helps!

live version with blank screen...okay try this:  boot from the stick and when you get to the "try ubuntu without installing" bit, hit "e" and replace "quiet splash" with "nomodeset" then hit F10 and see what happens (I had a blank screen on a live boot a while back and this got to live boot part)   ((using uefi mode and personally i disable secure boot))

I have followed this process and succeeded to LIVE MODE. But it is too slow. Any problem?

well, I don't wish to be the bearer of bad news, but i think the processor you have is a N4200 |(same as on the laptop i'm typing from), which is pretty low powered and if i run Ubuntu it is slow and the graphics tear a lot (ubuntu uses a forked gnome desktop these days which is pretty graphically intensive).  Also the hdd is mechanical, not ssd which will slow it down too.   But all is not lost!, unless you particularly want the bog standard desktop, why not give kubuntu a go (if ubuntu is what you're sold on and the kde desktop is nice and light these days and very good).  Or if this is a general change to linux, Fedora is a blinder and more resource efficient than ubuntu (or any of the spins), and opensuse is equally as efficient.  All can be live booted except opensuse which has to be installed (but they do do a live boot option separate from the main .iso's) Here's a few link:
    https://www.ubuntu.com/download/flavours
    https://spins.fedoraproject.org/
    https://software.opensuse.org/distributions/

now, i have the same cpu (but with an ssd) and 4gb ram, but with either kubuntu, fedora kde or opensuse leap (which has the kde desktop), its fast (and a lot faster than windows 10).  Hopefully that helps a bit.

a thorough guide (especially page 2 listing all settings and conditions you need to have before you boot into live USB or install)

it is for linux mint but it applies to all linux/debian installs

    hope it helps!
