If you are trying to install a dualboot Linux distribution like Ubuntu or Debian variants, the USB install stick must be GPT-partitioned FAT32, not MBR-partitioned FAT32. The UEFI bootstrapper must also be enabled, not in BIOS legacy mode. Jack E/NJ

[1] What is your Aspire 5's full model number? [2] What was its original factory-installed operating system, if any? [3] Are there issues with Win7? Jack E/NJ

  • You can try to do a factory reset by entering the bios and pressing f2 to activate the d2drecovery feature! Then save and exit and immediately press alt + f10! This will only work if recovery partition is intact!
    Or try the following:
    1) Download windows 10 from this site https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10! You must select the x64 option (only that works in uefi mode) and then select download in iso format!
    2) enter in the cmd as admin and enter these commands to program the pendrive to boot: diskpart, list disk, sel disk x (x is the number of pendrive), clean, convert gpt, create partition primary, format fs = fat32 quick and assign! "Give enter in each command"!
    3) Extract the iso x64 and paste the files on the pendrive!
    4) then enter the bios, disable the secureboot by creating a password in the setsupervisorpassword, select mode uefi and select the pendrive first at boot!
    5) Inside the windows 10 installation, we need to convert hd or ssd to gpt to run in uefi mode! To do this press shift + f10 and type diskpart, list disk, sel disk x (x is the number of ssd or hd), clean, convert gpt and then exit the program and continue the installation!
    6) to activate, just put the same email and password at the end of the process you used to activate the notebook first!

    1. Backup your important personal files because the following steps will wipe your HDD/SSD
    2. Download the 64 bit Windows 10 iso from Microsoft using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
    3.  Use rufus to create your USB installation media
    https://rufus.akeo.ie/
    4.  Use the rufus settings below:  GPT, UEFI (non-CSM), FAT32
    5.  Go in to your BIOS settings and load the defaults (F9) and then save/exit (F10) (should now be in UEFI mode)
    6.  Go back in to your BIOS settings and enable the F12 boot menu
    7.  Boot the Windows 10 USB by tapping F12 at the Acer post boot logo.
    8.  After you select your language, select install, then custom install and then delete all of your partitions on your HDD or SSD
    9.  Press and hold your computer's power button until it shuts off.
    10.  Turn on your computer and install Windows 10. Select install. Select custom install. Click on the drive where you want to install Windows and click Next.

Note: When you use rufus to create your installation media with the settings listed below, it will automatically strip the ability of your USB drive's Windows 10 iso to be booted as legacy and prevent you from accidentally installing Windows 10 as legacy.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
