After a bunch of Windows 10 updates, fingerprint login doesn't work anymore

A couple of days ago windows alerted me that some updates were available and did the usual "Update and restart" procedure. However I wasn't able to login via fingerprint anymore, upon logging in via PIN I went through the login settings and now the fingerprint setting is completly gone.

Here in the red square I marked there was the fingerprint setting and now it just says that "Windows Hello isn't available on this device", what it is going on?

My laptop spec: LAPTOP-NF5VSKQS

If system protection was enable, you should be able to find a Win10 update restore point around the time you lost the fingerprint login. If not, please look for another ACER model number as the one you gave above, NF5VSKQS, isn't listed. Jack E/NJ

The model number is Acer A715-71G-778R, I've found a restore point previous the update however I'd like to restore the fingerprint functionality with the current system state.

There is little to no point to downgrade the whole system, if the update has been dispatched there must have been a reason isn't it?

Does Device Manager show any red or yellow warnings? Does it show the device? If yes, you can try to uninstall the driver. Exit. Then reboot the machine to let Windows re-detect the hardware and auto install the driver. If still no joy, You can try to download and manually re-install the driver from this link

I've tried as you suggested without success a yellow mark is still shown. Even Windows itself recognized something wasn't working properly http://prntscr.com/k99i29, even after following its procedure (force update of the drivers and then reboot) a yellow mark is still shown in the device manager.

  • Check if there are any newer drivers for your notebook using the driverbooster!
You can also use the hardware id to copy it in google and to do this open the device manager and follow the photo, using the hardware id of the problem driver! Doing so will google show you several drivers and download the latest!
