If I power up my hp laptop, just turn it on, my printer works fine on my chromebook, otherwise chromebook says the printer is offline.  I have spent virtually hours trying to fix this.  Anyone have this issue?

    Hi @dmac1113

Please let us know why type of printer are you using and how are you connecting the printer. Is the printer directly plugged in to your HP laptop or is it connected Wireless.

In Chromebook there are two methods in connecting the printer. So, do share the details that way we can help you.

If the printer is set to log into Google via the laptop, this is the expected behavior. If the printer can log into Google directly it shouldn't require your laptop to be on. As Rudi21 said, we'll need to know how your printer is expecting to be used to go farther. Most modern printers connect to the network instead of with a USB cable when used with the Google Cloud Print service, when they're connected via USB the computer they are connected to has to be on in order for printing to work at all.

It is an Epson Artisan 810.  The instructions I found on the web indicated I had to set up Chrome on the HP laptop.  Acer support told me 3 different times that I could not conncect this printer at all (3 separate calls to support) but websites I found said of course I could.  It is wireless.  As soon as I power up the HP the printer shows online in Chromebook.  If the HP is not powered up it says it is offline.  I am certainly not a technical person and am totally frustrated with this.  My HP is on its last legs and I really need to figure this out.  Whatever help you can give is SO appreciated.  Both laptops are printing wireless.

Your HP laptop is being used as the printer's wireless web connection to your router, not the printer itself. This printer should be fully capable of making a direct wireless connection to your router without the HP laptop being involved at all. So shut off the HP laptop. Then follow directions on the printer's setup interface again to let it wirelessly connect directly to your router. You may have to enter a password if your router has one.  Jack E/NJ

    Hi @dmac1113

You can follow the steps as shown in this video. This might help you to connect your Chromebook directly with your printer.

Oh guys, remember I am NOT a techie. My printer options are nothing like those in the video.
When I type in my IP address 192.168.1.67 nothing looks like above.  There are no options on the left side of my screen under Network.  This comes up:  "Shared Key"
    For WPA-PSK(AES) security,enter Shared Key .
You can use 8-63 alphanumeric characters.  Is this the router code they are asking for?
I am trying both of your responses above and getting nowhere.  I can't even figure out who I could call to"walk" me thru this.  I feel like a total *****, so please bear with me.

Is there anyone that can help with an online chat line?  ACER just keeps telling me it is impossible because it is not cloud ready printer.

    Tune your chromebook to https://epson.com/Support/Printers/All-In-Ones/Artisan-Series/Epson-Artisan-810/s/SPT_C11CA52201#drivers

What operating system does this epson website detect on your Chromebook? If none or uncertain, then click epson's contact us button and send them an email on why you can't use the 810 with a Chromebook machine alone without also using another Windows, Linux or Mac machine. The wireless 810 may indeed not be capable of communicating directly over the internet thru the router and may have to be connected directly to the chromebook. Jack E/NJ
