Just bought a brand new nitro 5... when its on battery power after random periods of time it just shuts off and I have to restart it. Seriously WTF acer, brand new $700+ latop and it's randomly shutting off when I'm in the middle of working? I'm sick of wondering if my laptop is gonna take a dump on battery power when in the middle of working on something. I check the battery and its fine.

What's the problem? How do I fix it? Do I just punt my new laptop off the balcony, because that's what I feel like doing, this is maddening.

    Hi,
You could try a battery reset, switch off the laptop, disconnect the AC adapter, follow the instructions in the video, leave the laptop to rest for a while before starting again.

    Hi,

Please check at what intervals does the battery gets turned off.. ex: while running any application, while playing games etc.. also check if the device gets overheat while the unit turns off..

    Hi,

if the device turns off for no reason on a brand new device. i would say you can try factory reset or check with the place of purchase.

its just a pain thats all... I'll have to drive an hour to get there and see if they will take it back. I bought in 4/5/2018 so hopefully they won't give me grief about taking it back...

@GabeWJ a few stores would have 15-30 days of replacement policy. you can give it a try.

Did you check the temperature ?? I got the same model, and it is quite hot when I play heavy game while plugin. If that is the reason I suggest you using the cooling pad or try to limit CPU and VGA performance when plugin

brah, I do not do anything heavy on this laptop. I didn't buy it for gaming. It shuts off when I'm doing things as simple as writing an acer post. did you not read my initial post? I said it only happens when on battery power. how do you deduce it to being a temperature issue when it is on battery power? BRAH...

lets all go ride a logic train together lol, i'll pay hahahahahhahahahahahahaha

thank you all for your help, believe it or not the acer tech support line was less helpful than this forum not including the language barrier.

I'm sorry that you're having issues with your Acer Nitro 5. Can you please send me a PM with the S/N of your unit so I can look into this for you?

    Thanks,

In case that didn't work--I discovered that mine was shutting down when my FitBit Charge 2 was near it. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/544782/nitro-5-an515-51-turning-off-caused-by-fitbit

I discovered it's not the FitBit. It's the magnetic clasp on the band. There's a spot near the front of the keyboard, just left of the touch pad. When the magnet gets near it, everything goes dark. (Sorry for falsely accusing the FitBit!)
