My Acer Aspire 5741-A laptop was updated to windows 10 a few days ago. I was in word when it suddenly closed then reopened saying media test failure, check cable, no bootable device. I put the repair disc in and it says operating system unknown. Also start up repair off line. Please help!

    >>Access BIOS and make sure it can detect the hard drive. You might see the PXE-E61 error if the computer tries to boot to a hard drive that doesn’t work or is disconnected. Press and hold the Power Button for 5 seconds to turn your computer completely off. Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press the F2 key to enter the BIOS.
    >>Find the Boot menu and make sure the Boot Drive Order screen.
    >>Also, disconnect USB device like an external hard drive, Flash drive.

    >>Try to reset BIOS to default settings. Start your computer and as soon as you hit the Power On button, keep pressing the F2 key. You can simply hit the F9 key to display a blue screen that says Load Setup defaults? Clicking on Yes will restore the default BIOS settings.  Press F10 to save and exit.

Thanks for your quick response Sharanji, but I have tried this suggestion but it hasn’t worked. I wondered whether the problem was caused because I updated to windows 10.

Is the hard disk detected in BIOS?
Please go to BIOS and check next to HDD model name in information tab.

    No - it says none.

The hard disk itself is not detected in BIOS. The HDD model name is listed as None.
It could also be an hard disk failure. You need to physically check the hard disk cables and hope for the best.
