HDD and battery not recognized - No Bootable Device

Aspire VN7-593G-76SS purchased last year so out of warranty.  I'm not sure how long the battery recognition issue has been going on since this is my son's laptop and he's always got it plugged in.  However, yesterday it abruptly started saying "no bootable device" and the HDD was not recognized by the laptop.  I tried to use a USB to boot from, but either I did it wrong (I used Rufus) or the laptop is not recognizing it either.  Could this be a BIOS issue (System BIOS version is v1.02)?  How do I even update the BIOS if it's not seeing the USB or the HDD to read from?  Please point me in the correct direction on fixing this issue.  I'm almost at the point of buying a new HDD, but if it's a BIOS issue then a new HDD will not fix the issue.

    >>Try to perform a simple power reset and check the issue. Shutdown the laptop. Disconnect the charger. Please check for a battery reset PIN hole at the bottom of the device.The reset hole would have a battery symbol next to it. Insert a paperclip into the hole and press for four seconds. Let the computer sit for 5 minutes with no power. Reconnect the charger and power On the laptop.

    >> You may disconnect the hard disk and cable, reconnect and check again if it is detected in BIOS at the information. You can also check the hard disk by connecting to another device.

    >>Check the boot priority in BIOS before you boot using the USB drive.

    I was able to do all of the suggestions except check the HDD with another device.  None worked.

    Is the hard drive recognized in bios in the boot section? Can you tap a photo of that section?
