I have a blank screen on my Aspire 5532 and I'm looking to update the Bios with the Crisis program as described in the manual.

Does anyone know where I can find this Crisis program?

I'm sorry, but I'm unable to find any reference to a Crisis Disk in the manual for the Aspire 5532.

Which manual are you referring to specifically?

What do you mean by "a blank screen"?

    Where does this occur?

Are you able to get into BIOS?

The info is on page 141 in the Aspire 5532 Service Guide.

The screen never comes on. Also I plugged an external monitor in and no luck there either.

The laptop came up with a check disk, which I ran and seemed ok after. But the next day when I turned it on the screen never came on.

I can hear the CD come on like it's booting up but the screen never comes on.

I have read that it could possibly be a bios problem. Ive tried different Ram but no luck and also tried with the harddrive out but no beeps and no display.

If I find the .WPH file they talk about I can give the BIOS recovery a shot before I trash the laptop.

    Thanks for the reply.

The Service Guide is an Acer owned property and not intended for end user use.

Any information contained in said guide may not apply to the specific model that you have.

The information you are requesting is not something that we will be able to assist with.

There is no support that we are able to offer based on information you have downloaded from a third party site.

Here is the URL that I down loaded the documentation from.

    http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/Manuals/acer/2009/ServiceGuides/SG_Aspire_5532_10192009.pdf

I believe this is an Acer site and not a third party.

The laptop is useless to me right now. I do work in the IT field and I know it would be cheaper to buy a new one than to bring it somewhere to be repaired.

I'm not trying to rip anyone off or steal confidential information. I just figured if I could get an answer to my question, I could give it a shot before I trash the laptop.

Not real sure, but i think the term "crisis" disk is just there name for a flash drive with the latest dos based bios file. just download the latest bios and extract it. there now should be a "dos" and "windows" folder. open the dos folder and there should be a file in there with the extension .wph. thow this into the root of the flash drive(NO OTHER FILES ON THE DRIVE) and follow the procedure in the manual EXACTLY. Bios ususally just doesnt up and die(unless it powered off while it was updating). think you might have a dead mobo.

oh ya, if the manual isnt for consumer/third party use, why make it a public download?  :rolls eyes: Heavens forbid the end user may be able to repair it themselves!

    Thanks for replying.

I did download the Bios for the 5532 and the only Bios file is a .fd.

Thats why I'm looking for the .wph file, the .fd file doesn't work.

I did find an Acer Europe FTP site with all the model #s listed but not the 5532.

You're probably right about the mobo, but I figured I would give the bios a shot.

I did read in another post from an Acer tech that they get the Aspire laptops in with this problem frequently and it ends up being a bios issue.

If I do end up fixing it, I'll post the solution.

I did end up buying my daughter a new laptop (a Gateway) so this may go on the back burner.

    Thanks again for the reply.

i read somewhere that you need to rename the fd file according to your model. please try a google search.
