Windows 10 update disaster.

Aspire E 15 on Windows 10.  More of a warning than a question.  Got a major Windows update notification (big screen saying it would take longer than usual) so I clicked for it to start.  Result? One trashed laptop - won't boot up at all;  I just get a blue screen asking what language I would like on my keyboard, then an error message saying, "Your computer needs repair".  Essentially, the OS has disappeared...  Everything was preloaded when I bought it (from Staples, now out of business) so I have no way of reloading Windows 10. :/    Posting this from my ancient Toshiba.  Anyone else had this?

You can still send it for repair. If you have a warranty, Staples would probably send it to Acer as well. If you live in the U.S you can even buy a recovery media and recover the OS if you want to.

Let's breakdown the basics, let us know if you get these options.

    1. Anyway to access System Restore?
    2. Safe Mode w/ Networking
    3. If it is a BSOD with a sad smiley, there should be an error code.

Easy way: Go for a recovery/repair with Acer.
Hard way: Do another Operating System Re-installation (Choir).

Thanks for your help.  No access to anything!   Blue screen with error code.  I am away at the moment and I don't have the laptop here with me so I don't know exactly what the error code is, but the message with it certainly says, "your computer needs repair".
Probably just out of warranty - it's just over a year old.  I will contact Acer as you suggest. My real point is how can a Windows update make such a mess of my computer?  And has anyone else had this?

It's quite normal my friend. It is the same story since their first update and 1709 was a nightmare. Your chances are to do a system restore if you have access to the safe mode menu. If not, unfortunately a recovery media is a must.

Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds till the machine completely shuts down. Then turn it back on and ***immediately*** press and hold the ALT key while tapping the F10 key till the recovery screen below appears like in the video below. Follow directions in the video to either completely re-set to factory fresh or just refresh the system while trying to save your personal files/programs. Jack E/NJ

@dy nightmare 72 hours and still a pig - Acer techies any fixes no roll back before Windows install - find this very odd.  But ???    solution may be Linux.
Note have done SFC and DCIM.  Have Acer got any leverage with the A-holes at MS to fully test this stuff before they force it on us!!!! What kind of Virus is Windows 10?!?!?!?

Oh really? Might I suggest Cinnamon-flavored Mint 18.3 as a possible solution for you that looks, works and feels pretty good to me right now.  https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/554502/#Comment_554502
