Hello.  As stated, I have an Aspire A517-51G.
8th gen 4 core I5-8250U
8Gb DDR4 ram
256 Gb SSD
NVidia GeForce MX150
I want to add a 1 or 2TB HDD for storage.  There is an empty drive bay, but when I open it, I see nothing but a foil strap. How can I add a secondary drive, and what do I need to do this?

Thank you.

Mike P.

    Hi Mike,
check the previous hdd model and get an additional of the same kind.you can get the help of any local tech since its not recommended to work on any hardware related issue if its not known. Also you can check the model of your hdd in bios. And yes you can add an hdd if you have the slot.
    Accept if its Helpful.   B)

    Hi,
Do you have the HDD carrier and the cable in the bay?

thank you christy1.  The original drive is a 256GB SSD - one of those tiny little drives, about the size of an old stick of PC133, if you remember that. I need to get a 2.5 inch SATA HDD for the empty bay. I've had the cover off and there is no (obvious to me) place to attach a Hard Drive connector within the empty bay. That was why I asked what I might need to do and/or get to add another drive.

No brummyfan2, just an empty bay except for the ribbon going to my usb ports and earphone out.

    Hi,
If you are in USA, you could try contacting Acer Support centre and request these parts and they might send it for you, if you are not in the region, you have to buy them to install a HDD.
    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact
    Part number for cable: 50.GSUN2.002
    For Bracket: 33.GP4N2.002
4 screws to attach HDD to the bracket( size M3.0x3.0): 86.MXRN2.008
4 screws to attach the HDD assembly to the bay( size M2.0x3.0): 86.GCHN2.009

Could you post some photos please of where the cable goes and is routed to get to the drive bay? I'd like to do that. Any tricks to cracking the case, or just screws and the typical case cracking piece of sheet metal in the shop?
