Factory Reset

I have an Iconia Tab W810 which was updating the Windows 10 Feature update 1803. It downloaded and installed, but when it did the Restart, it got to 22% then failed "Restoring your previous version of windows". It did this consistently on each attempt. I carried out a Factory Reset to clear everything and start afresh. It installed Windows, but when it got to the Country and Language screen, the touchscreen didn't work. Nothing happened when I tapped the selection or "Next". I have tried the Factory Reset twice, and the same thing happened on the second attempt.
So at present I can't get past that screen.
Has anyone else had a similar problem. If so, how did you resolve it?

    Hi,

Before you get started, you will need the following tools and software:

To get windows 10, you can go to this Microsoft link and download the MediaCreationTool

To get Rufus Tool, you can go to this Rufus Website and download the tool.

    Start by following these steps:

    1. Using the Rufus tool, start by creating a bootable USB drive, compatible with the UEFI GPT partition table. Also select the file system as 32bits.

    2. Turn on the tablet and press <F2> when the Acer logo appears.

    3. Use the mouse to navigate to the boot menu tab and adjust the boot sequence by moving the USB disk to the first entry.

    4. Save the changes and the tablet will boot from the USB stick.

    5. Wait a few minutes to complete the USB boot.

(if you still cant boot with your usb drive, then go back to the Bios and disable the security settings, you will need to create a security password in order to be able to disable this option)

    6. Install Windows and follow the normal steps of installation. (We deleted all partitions, mainly because after previously upgrading from windows 8 to Windows 8.1, the recovery partitions normally don’t work)

    7. Install Drivers found at the Acer website.

    8. Connect to the internet and Activate Windows. (Since your Windows 8.1 product code is stored in the Bios chip, Windows will activate automatically).

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I need to obtain the USB bits and pieces first, but I will give it a try. Thank you.

There should be an error code listed in Settings>Security>Windows Update>View Update History . But agree, you need to use a USB keyboard and mouse.

    Hi Waldron,

Acer Iconia W3-810 has Atom Z2760 Clovertrail processor, so you must use Windows 10 winver 1607. You must downgrade your Windows 10 to winver 1607. You will receive security updates for Windows 10 winver 1607 from Microsoft. Microsoft will support  Windows 10 winver 1607 like other Windows versions, but you will stay at winver 1607 and you will receive only security updates.

You may find a Windows 10 winver 1607 setup DVD.

    BOOT FROM USB :astonished:

    Command Prompt (Run as Administrator)
    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
(Find your USB disk number from disk list and be careful, example USB disk is number 4)
    SELECT DISK 4
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    ACTIVE
    FORMAT FS=FAT32 /Q
    ASSIGN
    EXIT
    EXIT

Copy all files from Windows Setup DVD to your new active FAT32 USB disk. When tablet restart, it will boot from USB disk. You may use that method for Macrium Reflect Backup and Recovery CD for backup your Windows or recovery it.

    DRIVER BACKUP PROGRAM
Backup your all drivers from old Windows before reset or a clean install.
If you reset your Windows 10 or you make a clean install, backup your drivers with Double Driver program and use that backup folder for Windows Control Panel Device Manager, it automatically will find lost driver from backup folder.

Thank you all for the advice and help. I purchased the bits and pieces recomended by Karthik21 and have now been able to complete the Windows 10 installation using the USB keyboard and mouse. The touchscreen is still not working, but at least the OS is now functioning.

@levo. My Acer tablet is the W1-810 and has the Atom Z3735G processor. The current Windows version is 1709, which has been working successfully until this latest update. Every time I power up, Windows Update starts the download of Feature Update V1803, attempts to instal it then fails with the message "Restoring your previous version of windows". The error code shown in Update History varies. It has been 0xc1900101, 0x800706ba and 0x8024200d.
Unfortunately I didn't see your post about backing up drivers before I did the factory reset. This seems to have lost the drivers, which is causing my problem with the loss of the touch screen facility.
