Hello, I have an Aspire VN7-571G, SNID 54505506666, running Windows 10 64 bit, which I've had without issues for about 2 years.  Recently, I realized my webcam no longer registers in Windows, and is not usable for anything.  In the Device Manager tool, I had to "Show Hidden Devices", and the "HD Webcam" was greyed out.  When I click on it, the listed device status is

"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

When I look at the details for the device, the "Last arrival date" is 4/8/2018 12:57:41 PM, and the "Last removal date" is 4/8/2018 1:00:46 PM, 3 minutes later.  I can't find drivers listed on Acer's website for this device, and when I attempt to update it within the device manager tool, it tells me it is up to date.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone before? I don't want to uninstall the device because I don't know that it will pop back up when I scan for hardware changes, since it seems as though Windows doesn't recognize it being attached.

Thanks

Check settings for a Win10update "restore point" immediately before the times you posted above. Jack E/NJ

So I just checked my Windows update history, and my last update was actually on 4/11/18.

Any thoughts on what else may have caused this error?

Not the last update. We're looking for the restore point immediately before 4/8/18. Jack E/NJ

    Hi,

    Please try the steps below.

Press and hold Windows + R > type RSTRUI.exe > hit enter > follow the on-screen instructions and select a date before 4/8/18 and initiate restore.

Looks like System Protection was off - don't have a restore point... Awesome

:open_mouth: i think now you might have to perform refresh but this will remove any 3rd party software that was installed in the device

    Not a single restore point.

Any chance this is a hardware issue? I don't recall any drops or anything of the laptop, and it was last "seen" on a Sunday, so wouldn't have been on campus with me.
@Rudy21 really not wanting to do a refresh. That's a looot of data/ software to reinstall.

@BeastlyDavis13 even i dont think this to be a hardware issue. However, we cannot re-install the drivers as the driver was grayed out. we cannot do a restore as there are no restore points. Unfortunately, refresh is the only point of solution for this.

you can try to install Intel AMT driver from the below link. Post installation restart the device to see if any changes

OK. Try the Win8.1 driver. If it won't install, then try to install it in Win8.1 mode. Jack E/NJ

You can install it from Acer official website.

Go to support.acer.com choose the country and click on support and drivers and manuals

Can't find any camera drivers, new or old for this device... Are there others that I could try?

Sorry again. I'm unable to edit my last post. So disregard it.  Instead google "camera driver" "acer" with the quotes. Try the drivers guide suggestions first. Jack E/NJ
