Hey guys, i learnt too late that these come with proprietary drivers, and that they do not have drivers for linux. I am on my way to become a developer and i used to use ubuntu on my old machine as dual boot with windows. Can i install linux on this machine and will it be safe if so? Since acer does not have drivers listed for it.

I really appreciate any help! And would love details!

Oh, i also had an older regulr acer laptop G5, which had a 940mx, the video card got pretty hot old the time even though i wasn't using much of the video. I think that was because of the drivers that were not the actual ones it should have had.

Yes.  I have a dual boot going on.  One 256GB SSD runs Windows and one runs Linux (Debian).  It is an Optimus system so you will need to install Bumblebee to get the NVidia to work while gaming.  THe proper command in steam to invoke Bumblebee is 'optirun %command%'  Add that to your steam command line for launching.
