What external dvd drive works with the Acer Aspire?

I have tried a few but none are recognized through the usb drive. Thank you.

What kind of disks were you trying to use in these drives? Did you try to open file explorer to see if they were listed? Jack E/NJ

Yes, the drive is not showing up as a disc drive and will not read discs0

This is unusual. Does the USB port see a USB stick OK? If yes, which specific USB DVD drives have you tried? Jack E/NJ
