Hi guys.

I've bought the Predator Helios 300 on Amazon. I've not received it yet, but I'm kind of worry because some negative reviews I read.

However I also read that many of the "known issues" can be solved with bios and drivers updates.

So, I was wondering if anyone have an advice about all the recommended steps that are needed to ensure the laptop work without issues (?). And what things should I update and in what order?

Thanks in advance.

Before anything I'd turn off auto driver updates, here are the steps:

    1. Press "Windows Key" + "Pause Break" key

    2. A window will open, look to the left hand side and click on "Advanced System Settings"

    3. Another window will open, click on the "Hardware" tab

    4. On the "Hardware" tab look for "Device Installation Settings" and click on that

    5. One more window will open, tick the circle next to "No" and then "Save Changes" at the bottom

After you can start updating things: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers Put your relevant info in the boxes. This is where you can get your BIOS update which I recommend you do, just update to the latest version. Also update your intel VGA driver from there, and you can download the latest nvidia driver from here: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/123221/en-us. Other than that you should be set pretty much I'm sure someone will chime in if I forgot something.

Hey man, thanks for your reply.

I read some comments where people say that they updated to each bios version individually (in ascending order). Some people said that it was "better" to do it in this way, and others claimed that it was not possible to do it otherwise (they just couldn't update directly to the lastest version).

Any advise on this? Will it be just the same if I update directly to the latest version? Or it is better to do the updating one by one, even if it takes more time?

You're welcome, as far as I know it's completely fine to update to the latest. I haven't heard anyone have problems with these by updating to the latest 1.09. If you need the previous version first it will warn you but I haven't heard of anyone having this problem here.

@Fernan there is a Helios group on Facebook that has guides on first time buying, temperature control, overclocking etc.

In Facebook in groups search for
    Acer Predator Helios 300

    There is like 1500 members.
