I want to remove personal data from my laptop before returning to Acer for service.

The laptop will not boot up.

I purchased a SSD M.2 to USB adapter. Mounted the M.2 SSD to the adapter, plugged it into the USB on another laptop.

I am able to read the following directories:

Windows

Users

Pictures

Documents

But not C:\ or D:\ drive

Is that because my laptop already has drives named C & D?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

By default, all your documents, pictures etc... gets saved to your C:\ and there's no deviation from this. Perhaps if you want to give it to service, they are going to format the hard disk due to privacy policies anyways. Cut the files into your storage and anything that has size, move it to your backup device. If you're unsure, simply just format your drive.

I want to read M.2 SSD from a broken laptop.

    I purchased a M.2 to USB adapter.

I can read some directories and files, but NOT any data for what was C:\ and D:\ drive on the broken laptop.

The device shows up as E:\ drive.

    Thank you
