Long term usage, reliability with Helios 300?

Hello,   I've been looking at Helios, Dell 7577 and Lenovo Leigon y720 (I can get this at cost).  With both being spec'ed with 1060 6gb video card, I7-7th 7700HQ and 16gb of a ram.  I'll be using this for my business and using the laptop for CAD/CAM work.   I've been looking heavily as these because of the processor, ram but most importantly the video card has the power to do what I need.  Maybe be a little over kill but it "future proofs" me for a little while.

My main concern is the power port connection, in the past I've head serval come off the MOBO.  I switch to a macbook pro in 2008 because of the magnet connection but since apple did away with it and I would need to buy top of the line 15"" (2800 dollars).  To me it's just not worth the apple price, I did have almost 10 years of usage out of it with no hicups.    Besides the power port,  any other issues related to hardware I should be made aware of?

Thanks

Also how is the Helio finish?  Is it hard to keep clean?   If so are there any covers or stickers people use?

I have the Helios 300 G3-572. When I first got it, the palm rest area always gave me static shocks. But after a few days, it stopped (maybe I got used to it? LOL)

I would say the keyboard and whole chassis in particular is a fingerprint and grime magnet. I'd suggest wiping it with a damp cloth down once in a while after intense periods of gaming.

When I first got it out of the box, every game I played at any setting would push my card and processor upwards of 92 degrees. But after doing research, I played with the power settings to disable Turbo Boost; and also Intel's Xtreme tuner thing to undervolt the CPU. Now it rarely crosses the 80 degrees threshold in any game at any setting.

    Okay done ranting xD.

Now for the pros: able to deliver solid performance across any application as you'd expect. SSD is quite fast too. Handles any game at High Settings on 1080p resolution easily @ 60fps

Thanks for that.  How do you feel about long term reliability?

I love the look of the Acer the best but my biggest concern is long term usage.  I'm not using it as a gaming laptop but as for work (CAD...Solidworks, Pro-e/Creo, Inventor).

Regarding the finger prints and dirt, has anyone use the sticker covers.  Sorry I don't know the correct term.  Basically a sticker that goes over the exterior to change the look and/or help protect it.

As far as I know, the helios (G3-571) has not even been released for a full year yet, so I don't think anyone can give you a true answer to that question. So far in these forums, I have not saw very many incidences where the laptop has broken and there are 1,000s if not 10,000s of these laptops out there. And not 1 incident of the power port breaking.

It is more likely that you would break it/drop it/spill something on it than it wearing out of you.

The only thing that truly bothered me about the laptop is that it would get hot. However, there are ways to lower the temperatures and most laptops are going to run hot no matter what with a i7 4 physical/8 logical cores and a GTX 1060.

Another thing is the lag that sometimes happens when switching between the iGPU and the NVIDIA GPU. However, it is Windows/driver related and all brands (Acer, ASUS, MSI, Dell, etc.) of laptops are experiencing the issue right now because it requires Intel or Microsoft to fix.

I found a sticker cover here if you truly think you need it. The only way for a laptop to not get dirty from fingerprints would be to have a plastic exterior/casing, but that is very cheap looking/feeling. The best thing to use is a microfiber cloth to wipe it down real quick to get rid of dust and fingerprints.

Most of the stuff is superficial and can be mitigated with some help from the forums here.
