Acer Predator Helios 300 - Freezing in multiplayer games

Hello,

I recently purchased the Acer Predator Helios 300 for Christmas. Out of the box, everything seemed fine. After playing a few multiplayer games for awhile, I began to freeze when in combat. It usually occurs when I'm fighting someone. In mid combat the screen will freeze. I cannot move my character, and the same sound plays repeatedly. Because I can't move I usually die. The games I play are all optimized by Ge Force Experience and I have the latest driver installed. Anything else I can do to stop this? It's really annoying and I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!,
Fizz

Try updating your NVIDIA (from website, not NVIDIA Geforce) and Intel display drivers (in Device Manager), and uninstall NVIDIA Geforce. Check out the guide for FPS drops, which directs you to disable the Game bar, Game DVR, and Game mode.

Refer to my guide here for more that talks about stutter and FPS drops:

Let me know if it gets fixed and what worked.

Edit: Make sure GeForce Experience is not reinstalled when getting the driver from the web site.

    Hey,

I uninstalled GEFORCE Experience, then updated my driver for the 1060 from the website. I also turned off the Game BAR, Game DVR, and Game Mode. I went to the "Device Manager" > "Display Adapters" and updated the 1060 and the Intel graphics. I'm not sure if that's the right place but it needed an update and figured it couldn't be bad. Are there any programs that will effectively optimize your games? Experience was cool but I didn't know it could have such a negative effect. Is it because Experience isn't fully fleshed out yet? When I did install the driver from the website, It did find the new driver for me, but also tried to install and make a shortcut for Experience. Once I noticed, I uninstalled that too. Was it supposed to do that?

    Thanks again!,

The optimization tools do not really do very much except change your in-game settings. If you check my sticky post, again lol, I have a section for the NVIDIA control panel settings where the game itself controls how the video card runs the game('Let the 3D application choose'). I think GeForce has such a bad time because of the conflicts between the integrated graphics and dedicated graphics.

I take it that the performance is better now?

Yeah, I have somewhat better performance now, freezing only happens occasionally. I tried to go into the nVidia control panel but I can't seem to enter it. Is this some sort of glitch? I read something about reinstalling all my nVidia folder stuff and then downloading again, but is there an easier workaround?

The Control Panel should open, and can be found here: "C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Control Panel Client\nvcplui.exe"

When you installed your NVIDIA driver, you should have chosen 'Custom' with a check on clean installation, and unchecking the NVIDIA Geforce Experience so it did not install.

Yeah, found the panel but I only have 3 options? Shouldn't there be more?

As the GTX 1060 in the Helios 300 in not a dedicated GPU, no.

    You are welcome.

Let me clarify my previous post. The GTX 1060 is a dedicated GPU, but the screen in not directly connected to the GTX 1060. The screen in connected to the Intel Integrated Graphics, and the GTC 1060 is used as a graphical coprocessor.
