Black screen - cannot escape sleep / hibernate mode

Hi,

I've been having a recurrent issue - if I leave my Aspire R14 plugged in or on battery and it goes to sleep, I cannot get out of the black screen when I use the machine again. Pressing the power button does nothing and the only way out is to long press to do a hard reboot. So, anything that I had open is lost [I've learnt the hard way to save before leaving my machine].

I've downloaded the latest drivers. I've set the power plan to not ever sleep even on battery and set the harddrive to only sleep after 6 hours of inactivity.

Is there a better way? Am I missing something on how to restart after it goes to sleep? BTW, both lights [disk and power] remain blue even with the black screen.

There's more than one version of the R14.

If you have the R3-471(T) with Haswell-ULT, e.g. Intel i5 4210U and are running Windows 10, then here are some potential workarounds.

Go to Device Manager and rollback the Intel Management Engine Interface driver.

If that doesn't help, then you can try installing the Windows 8.1 Intel Management Engine driver from https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

And lastly, you can go back to Windows 8.1 using either your USB factory default recovery drive, vanilla Windows 8.1, or by ordering your recovery media from Acer. (Backup your important personal files first). In some cases you might still be able to reset your PC to factory condition by using Acer Care Center or Alt+F10 at boot as described on Acer's youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc2wrPP5__2PazgxybrgNKw

My suggestions are strictly for the R14 R3-471(T) Haswell-ULT version.
