GX-785-UR18: Cursor keeps locking in "scroll to the right" mode

I don't know exactly when it started happening but now it won't stop. If I'm on my browser, I can't click through a slideshow (like on aol.com) because it will scroll uncontrollably through the content. If I'm in a text file, the cursor will scroll all the way to the end and I can't scroll to the left because it's locked in "scroll to the right" mode. If I try to type in a URL it will keep trying to auto complete and I can't finish typing in a correct URL. If I'm playing the mmo computer game World of Warcraft, my character will appear to be spinning around clockwise, indefinitely. If this happens in the game, I can exit and restart the game to clear it. If it happens while I'm not in the game and is affecting either my browser or any other application where the window can scroll, only a total system reboot will clear it. Until it comes back, and it keeps coming back and keeps coming back and *KEEPS* coming back.

At first I thought it was my Logitect MX518 Optical Mouse or my IOGEAR GKB704L-BK keyboard, but neither of those are responsible. The problem persists even when I use the stock mouse and keyboard that came with the computer. It came with Windows 10 pre-installed so I can't reinstall or reformat (not to mention I'd have to save any new data not on my previous hard drives).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,
Try reinstalling the drivers for your stock keyboard and mouse, use only the original Keyboard and mouse, go to Device manager(right click Start Windows logo), expand Keyboards, highlight and right click Standard PS/2 keyboard, click Uninstall this device, reboot and let Windows install the driver.
Repeat this for Mice and other Pointing Device, HTH.

The keyboard is HiD compliant like the mouse; the computer has no PS/2 port. I did as you suggest and I'll try to stick with the stock keyboard a few days just to see what happens. FWIW, the IOGear keyboard had no custom driver but used the regular HiD compliant keyboard driver. The layout of the stock keyboard doesn't feel quite right; a number of utility keys are baked into the number pad which I don't like, and the G and J keys stick so hard. I have to press very firmly on either key and then it will type as many as five or six G's or J's. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought the IOGear keyboard at all.

Nonetheless, I did as you suggested and if the problem doesn't come back for a week, I'll consider it solved. Wish me luck, haha.

Follow-up: That didn't take long. I stepped away from the computer to shower. I came back to check Facebook. When I turned on Chrome, the taskbar icon started blinking as the browser loaded. I went into my photos and they started speed-scrolling.

So I know it's not my keyboard or mouse. The problem keeps coming back even with the stock keyboard and mouse and the stock "HID Compliant" drivers.

EDIT: Before restarting, I tried to mute my speakers' volume. Instead, the volume slider forcibly scrolled-- you guessed it-- all the way to the right, to 100%, instead, and absolutely blocked all attempts to scroll to the left, including hitting the mute button.

Hi,
Go to Acer support site and download Acer Quick Access Application, extract the zip file to the Desktop or a convenient place, then go to Control panel, Programs and uninstall the Acer Quick Access Application, reboot and install the downloaded Acer quick Access Application. I can not say that this will resolve the problem but worth a try.

None of the above helps. The glitch is even FORCIBLY altering my computer's settings if I attempt to go into them while the cursor's scrolling is malfunctioning.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'm listening. Otherwise I'm the owner of a $910 paperweight. I'll probably end up going back to my old computer.
