Like 5 days ago I bought this laptop with the gtx 1080, i7 7820hk, and 32gb ram, but Im having problems. So last night I was gaming (fallout 4) Played for like 1 hour and when I closed the game I noticed that my battery level was at 92%. The problem is that my laptop was plugged in. I dont really think this is normal since the AC adapter says it is a 354W, and its big and heavy. Im currently running my laptop undervolted at -160v using the intel extreme tunning utility. My clock speed is at 3.8ghz.

Almost forgot, I was downloading a game, and had the browser open, but I dont really think that draws that much power.

This is a protection measure against battery wear and powerbrick overheat on extensive use. The system actually has a relatively low power draw, about 250W, reported by notebookcheck, on normal preset. Using the OC presets increases the power draw significantly, so you can expect faster battery drain and much hotter powerbrick, and also throttling, thermal on the CPU side and in my case the GPU hits the power limit at 1860Mhz, but still one of the fastest notebook i have ever seen. I would appreciate Acer giving us an optional OC bios with core clock and voltage controls, or at least add manual mode to PredatorSense, all other major gaming laptops have this function

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

    Hello

I don't know whether this is normal or not, but it happens on my 17x too and on many other predators.

</blockquote>when you game on your predator how low does it get on battery? I found a post were an Acer guy responded and said that the laptop was design to use battery when gaming until it reached 30% it started to use ac power again. Right now Ive been playing for 1hour (fallout 4, ultra settings, quite a few graphics mods) and my laptop sits at 89%

What I think is the reason they made this is to reduce the battery wear, caused by constantly charging by keeping it between 80-99%. In some cases that battery percentage might go even lower.

Hopefully is working as intended and not some faulty laptop I got here. Been playing for 2 hours now and battery at 81%

So If I game for a long period of time and the battery gets to 30% will it go lower? or just stay there and charge again?

it will not go below 30%, all battery draw and performance boost stops. as soon as you stop gaming or the load drops, your battery charges up again. the system is designed this way because batteries that stay charged at high voltages deteriorate faster, a half charged battery will always have a longer overall lifespan than a battery always kept at full charge or completely dischraged, that's why they use the battery as a booster so the voltage can drop occasionally, or whenever you game. i like this but i also hate this, there are pros and cons if you don't use your laptop only for gaming. hope this will help understand the way it works. i wish this feature would be optional, turn it on or off whenever you want

I can't be optional as those who want to play games on battery will turn off the power limit, the battery will deteriorate faster and will be dead before the warranty is finished, and then Acer will have to replace it for free.

I went into amazon and asked a question where I bought the laptop and Acer replied and said it wasnt a known issue, and that I should report it ..... I´ll just continue as normal, I dont really play that much, 80% is the lowest it has gone. Thanks alot guys for responding to me. I really was very nervous

They should really instruct their employees, but thanks man. I was extremely nerveous about this especially because I couldnt believe that after spending this much money I got a faulty charger or battery. I now just need to figure out how to fix dolby audio turning off and how to turn off the terrible and annoyingly loud boot sound lol.

    Thanks again budd

There is an option in BIOS to disable the start-up sound. Enter BIOS(F2 on startup) and in section 'Main' set the POST Animation and Sound to disabled.

There is no way to fix dolby audio turning itself off, but you can uninstall it and download EqualizerAPO, which will work.

I am having the same issue. I purchased a Acer Predator 17 X GX-792-77BL  2 days ago and the battery starts to lose juice when I
game at 4K. I never would have bought this had I known, I bought a Aorus x7 DT V7 and, sadly, it had an issue with the motherboard so I only bought this because I could not  find one anywhere else. This is unacceptable on Acer's part, I never had an issue with the Aorus laptop. I guess I will have to return mine, especially since Acer's responses on the issue are ridiculous. They are calling a design error a "feature" , when I cant play my $3000 gaming laptop for more than 5 hours, there is a serious friggin problem
