Hello, i have an acer predator 17 g9-793 for a year now and i have this problem for about one month: when i run a demanding game or any popular MMORPG i get this weird noise that's scaring me out, here is how it looks like : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRvxaA3Zrj0
Any ideas of the problem and how to fix it? i don't really want to open the computer because of the warranty...

I think it is a ground loop, because ground loops can be unnoticeable until something is pulling a lot of power.

Example: I have my desktop PC on the same breaker as my speakers (950 watt desktop, 3000 watt speaker amp). If the PC is not turned on, there is no ground loop, but if it is turned on, the ground loop can be heard at much lower volumes on the speakers.

When the laptop is unplugged from other power sources, the loop decreases from less power being used/drawn.

I don't honestly know a solution other than sending it to Acer. If its out of warranty, unplugging/removing the speaker if that noise is that bothersome? Even if the speaker was replaced the loop might still be there because it might be the motherboard causing it.

Final say: If you are still under warranty, contact Acer Support and send it in.

It almost sounds like static/ground loop in the speakers. See if the noise is coming from the speakers, or the back of the laptop where the fans are (since you said it only happens under heavy load).

Only real way to determine the problem and find a solution is to find where the sound is coming from.

I'm positive the noise is coming from the speaker, only one speaker, the one on my left, and since the fans are located at the back of the computer i don't think they are the problem. Also i noticed that the noise is less agressive when the computer is unplugged

It sounds like a grounding issue. Have you ever removed any of the screws from the laptop before?

If you still have warranty, contact Acer support.

Have you tried muting the volume to see whether the buzzing will disappear?

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

I did not try to open the computer before, because of the warranty.
Yes i tried to mute and even disable the sound driver and the buzzing stays.
Also i noticed that enabling V-sync on games forces the noise to take longer to be agressive like in the video i linked.

I think that it can be a coil whining, which can explain why turning V-sync on lowers the noise. So this happens when only playing demanding games? Does this sound appear while playing a music? Are you sure that it comes from the left speaker? Have you tried looking for the noise around the place where the 'enter' key is? Does turning up or turning down the volume change the volume of the noise? I think the phone you used to record the video over exaggerates the noise a bit, which makes it hard to determine whether it is a grounding issue or a coil whining. I believe it is a coil whining, because if it was a grounding issue, the noise would be there all the time, no matter whether you play games or listen to music.

I'm 100% sure the noise is coming from the left speaker and not from the "enter" key, when i turn on the computer and when i put my ear next to the speaker i hear the noise but i really have to put my ear there to hear it, when i run a demanding game the noise gets louder and louder until i quit the game, the noise stays with the same amplitude but doesn't increase.
Music is not affected at all by this, neither the volume change.
I tried something today: i plugged my computer to an electrical output without the ground thing, and played the same game, and i noticed that the noise didn't get as loud as when plugged to an electrical output WITH the ground thing, like there is a huge difference.
Also when disabling V-sync, i heard coil whining, no doubt on that, just like in other youtube videos. When enabling v-sync, no trace of coil whining at all.
I am actually confused about all this, it seems like i have both ground loop and coil whining, coil whining is related to excess fps i think so the problem is solved by enabling v-sync (aka capping to 60fps, correct me if i'm wrong), but the ground loop is persistent, low amplitude when playing a game with computer plugged in an electrical output WITHOUT the ground thing, and when the computer is plugged into an electrical output WITH the ground thing, the amplitude of the noise is so high that it feels like the computer is going to explode any minute...

Just glad that this happened to you while under warranty. If my laptop had this issue I would go crazy, probably wouldn't use it very much.

They should get it fixed for you.

G9-793 is a new model, released this year, so the warranty won't be an issue.

    Hi guys,

I have the exact same issue with my G9-593 except that the noise comes from right speaker.

After having high load on both CPU and GPU (gaming) the noise on right speaker gradually increases to an unbearable level. None of the following solves the issue:

    1. Muting speakers
    2. Plugging/unplugging headphones
    3. Plugging/unplugging power
    4. Plugging/unplogging FrostCore
    5. Unplugging any possible hardware (mouse, keyboard, external displays etc).

I thought the laptop had 2 years warranty but on Acer website it seems I only have one year on-site warranty. (I am not in the country that I bought this one + it will at least take a few weeks before it gets resolved.) Any recommendations for solving this on my own?

On the Acer's website the international warranry is shown, otherwise you have 2 years of warranty in the country you bought it from.

You have to contact Acer and request a repair.

Thanks. I bought it from UAE when I was working there. Now I neither hold residency nor am in UAE. I think I need to stick to international warranty.

This is good that you don't have residency in UAE, because you can use the international warranty there.

EDIT: So currently you are not in UAE? Are you resident of the country you are currently in?
