I have two laptops - ES1-711G-P4CL and ES1-711-P9FB. On laptops are the latest BIOS versions. They are set up in UEFI mode, but can not install Windows 10 on them? Once the installation is done properly, the blue screen of death begins to appear and the computers are reset.

    (1) What do you mean by "reset"? (2) What were the original factory-installed WinVers? (3) Have you set a BIOS password and disabled secure boot? Jack E/NJ

Please make sure you have created a Windows 8.1 USB recovery drive and backup all of your important personal files before you attempt to install Windows 10.

I checked the Windows 10 Fall Creator's list, and I don't see your models on the list.  That's usually not a good sign.

My advice is to stay with Windows 8.1.  However, if you're installing Windows 10, make sure you do a custom installation and delete all of your partitions first.  And then click Next.  That's my only suggestion.  Maybe someone else can have a suggestion.

If you need Windows 8.1 recovery media to restore your PC to factory condition, you can contact Acer.

    Thank you for your answers.

    1. reset - the computer is lit up for 10 seconds and the blue screen appears and resets; 2. I'm working with the orginal versions of Windows Media - there are several pieces; 3. The BIOS has no passwords, and there are no secure boot options in the BIOS

Please note that there are two models that behave identically to Windows 10 installation

The only thing that makes me confused is that the Acer site has a subnet driver for these models for Windows 10.

Microsoft keeps updating Windows 10.  At one point, your laptops were compatible with Windows 10.  But they are no longer compatible.  My guess is your graphics chip or other hardware is no longer supported by Microsoft Windows 10.

    >>>there are no secure boot options in the BIOS>>>

In the BOOT dropdown, there should be a secure boot enabled section in UEFI mode. If it is greyed out, then you must set a BIOS supervisor password in order to disable it. Jack E/NJ

    JordanB>>>Microsoft keeps updating Windows 10.>>>

Heh-heh. It might better be called at least Windows 13 by now --- maybe even Windows 14. I think Microsoft should use Roman numerals to specify both the year and which day out of 365 the updates are released to clear things up. For example, today's update might be called Windows XI.XXX.MMXVII. They could even add minutes and seconds. Then anybody who is anybody amongst the Windows cognoscenti would know that you can't possibly expect to run Windows XI.XXX.MMXVII on a machine that was manufactured on XI.I.MMXVII . Whattya think? 8^) Jack E/NJ

Yes definitely.  Microsoft doesn't even support 1511 anymore.

I don't think @pero12345 is quite ready to accept that his laptops' hardware are no longer compatible with Windows 10.  I've still got a lot of leaves to rake and burn so I'm going to let you help him.  :)

If you want a short term workaround......then you can download an older iso........like 1607 or 1703 and use rufus to create your installation media.
Use the settings on the rufus homepage.  GPT partition scheme for UEFI, FAT32, iso

My advice is still stick with Windows 8.1.  Windows 8.1 is a good OS.

Gee, I must agree again. What worries me now is what "N/A" means in Win8.1 end-of-support column. Does it mean not applicable' because support will never end?  Or because it will end when the hotly-anticipated Windows 9 is finally ready? Or because of something more sinister?

Seriously though JordanB, how are you protecting the 1607 and 1703 builds from a 1709 sneak attack without jumping thru hoops? Some claim to have tried setting group policies to do so but they apparently didn't stick.

Good question.  I don't know if the link below will work?  I also don't know what will happen if he installs 1703, but it goes out of support in tentatively September 2018.  That's why I said "short term"  :)

I'm going to volunteer you as guinea pig to install 1703 and see what happens.  (I'm kidding).  :)

Probably best to stay with Windows 8.1 (if you have a Windows 8.1 computer that doesn't work well with Fall Creator's).  That's what I did.

Thanks JordanB. The easiest fix for me to stabilize the Win10 machine was the metered wifi connection --- so far so good --- but my trust in this is not high. My Win8.1 and Win7 ACER & HP machines, that I rely on for almost everything, are gonna stay reliable as long as I can still uncheck critically-checked driver updates that Microsoft keeps trying to sneak in as critical. For most day-to-day stuff, I don't even know if I'm using Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.  It's all the same to me.  The start button works differently, but I rarely left click on either start button.  I'm more of a right clicker.  ;)

I did think of one other thing you can try.......check to see if you have the latest BIOS.

You're going to need to have Windows installed to update the BIOS.

To find your current BIOS version, you can check in the BIOS settings.

    Or you can.....

    1. Right click on the Windows Start button'
    2. Left click on Run
    3. Type msinfo32
    4. Click ok
