HDMI adaptor problem

I have an Aspire One D255E (operating on Windows 7) which I only use for powerpoint presentations on a projector. This has worked well.  I now have to  use a new projector which only has HDMI input.  When I attach an HDMI adaptor to the VGA lead the screen on the Aspire blacks out.  Any suggestions?

You could try the Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 toggle key combos to see if the screen will turn on. If not, you might try another HDMI-VGA adapter or an HDMI-USB adapter. Jack E/NJ

Many thanks JackE.  Fn + F5 fixed my problem.   This is after I spent hours looking for an answer.
