R3-471T factory reset (to Win 8.1)

My R3-471T is now running Win 10 Home v1703 (after several automatic upgrades from original 8.1 over the years), but it's getting sluggish/bloated and in need of a refresh. I like to factory reset my tired OSs and wait/work through the downloads, updates, and re-installs.

My question to the community is:

Has anyone clean-slate factory reset an originally Win 8.1 Acer R3 lately, and how did the various updates back to Windows 10 go? Mainly concerned about win8-win10 upgrade, any hassles/loopholes to clear registering with MS?

I'm hoping this restore results in a much better performing system, especially because the old updates from original 8.1 happened over a few years and I had a lot of software and drivers already in place each time. This time I want to get the OS back to Win 10 "clean" before the apps are added.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Neil

If Win10 hasn't wiped out the hidden eRecovery partition on the HDD, you should be able to re-set to factory fresh Win8.1. Then skip the Win8.1 updates and go straight to the Win10 upgrade if you have the installation media or iso. Jack E/NJ

I have no installation media, and I'm not sure if the recovery partition is intact, but I assume it is as it shows up in disk manager. My original upgrades from win8.1 were all downloaded as part of the MS free upgrade to win10.

At this point years after its release, will that free ms update to win10 still work?

    Thanks,

Neil---You can probably get back to a factory-delivered Win8.1 state with the ALT+F10 cold boot method by following this video exactly.

You may even be able to save most of your personal files by doing a re-fresh instead of a re-set depending on how much incompatibility was introduced by Win10. However, it's unlikely that Win10 can still be re-installed and activated by Microsoft for free. Jack E/NJ

I would probably try to create a factory default recovery drive first with Acer recovery management.   You'll need a 16GB USB flash drive and then watch video below.

Thanks Jordan. Will Win8.1 ARM work like this starting from the Win10 environment? Jack E/NJ

Jack, It's hit or miss or whether Alt + F10 will give ability to go back to Windows 8.1.   50-50 chance.  If he is still able to create a factory recovery drive using Acer Recovery Management software....that might save him $50 if he ever wanted to go back to Acer OEM factory 8.1.  Otherwise I guess he could use vanilla Windows 8.1 or Vanilla Windows 10.

I would probably try to use Acer Recovery Management software to reset too....unless of course he just wants to go straight to Windows 10.
