Hello everyone,

I recently bought an Acer Aspire VX15 about a week ago. I have since had the problem that it would randomly crash when used in battery mode. As long as it is connected to a power outlet everything is working fine. Once used with battery only though it will crash on me sooner or later.

I have tried linking it to a certain program or activity but to no avail. It seems to run longer when only using my browser and nothing else, but eventually it will crash too. If I start Steam it usually crashes after a minute or two. The battery was fully charged while I was testing this. I also tried resetting the battery already as well as checking if all my drivers were up to date. I thought it might be overheating but I can feel no excess heat anywhere on the laptop, as it is only a few days old I don't think blocked cooling vents or fans should be a problem either as I keep it very clean. Another thing I checked was wether it would behave differently if I only use programs off the SSD instead of the HDD but that didn't change anything either.

These are the exact specs:

Model VX5-591G-52RU

i5-7300HQ

GeForce GTX 1050

256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD

8 GB RAM

Windows 10 Home

I really hope someone can give me a hint here as I kind of tried everything I could come up with.

Make sure your BIOS is up to date. Before you update it make sure battery is at 100% and laptop connected to charger. If it doesn't fix the problem please go to power settings and set to 'balanced' mode.

Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Thanks for the hint, sadly it didn't work though. I updated the BIOS from 1.5 to 1.6 but the problem remains.

I think I will have to contact customer support about this.

Did you try from power options setting the power plan to balanced?

I did try changing the power plan. It seems it lasted slightly longer on balanced than before but still crashed at some point.

Then the last option is left to send the laptop to Acer for repair or ask for a replacement if it is still in test period.

Sorry, there is one last thing you can try.

Please go to nvidia control panel and from power management mode change the setting to 'adaptive'.
