Computer was in SLEEP mode.  When I woke it, there was no internet connection!

Had to activate the WIFI to get online.

Device Manager shows no hardwire under Network Adapters.

What's going on?

    Nope.  Just Wi-Fi.

    The PROPERTIES box says:

"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

power off your wifi adapter, disconnect the ethernet cable and reboot your pc.

once booted, plug the ethernet cable and check if the ethernet adapter re-appeared.

    It uninstalled.

After reboot, the device no longer shows up, even with "Show hidden devices" checked.

The driver installation gives the option for Modify, Repair or Uninstall.

    "Modify" cannot be selected.

I chose "Repair" and got the following msg:

    Realtek.png

I then did "Uninstall" and a re-install and got the exact same dialog.

the ethernet controller is in power saving mode.

reboot and check if it became visible under device manager, show hidden devices (check also if any yellow exclamation mark is visible)

then try to re-install the drivers and then

    Open Network Controller properties:
    1. Double-click Network adapters to expand it
    2. Double-click the Realtek Network Controller
    Turn off Deep Sleep mode:
    1. Choose the Power Management tab
    2. Untick “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

instead of simply rebooting, shutdown your system and unplug the power cable for 5-10 minutes, then plug it back and power it on.

    check again the realtek adapater
