A3-A40 constantly crashes

We had one old Samsung tablet from which we wanted to move over our game progress. To be able to do that we found third party backup and restore software. We bought a new A3-A40 and ran a restore. Some worked, some didn't. But the problem now is that the tablet has crashed aprox every other day so that we have to keep the power button down a while to be able to get it back up. I read somewhere that vibrations while booting indicate something. I don't remember what, but I can say that it does not vibrate at all while holding the power button or when powering it on, if it matters.

I can't say if the tablet would have worked before running a restore of all the apps, because that's among the first things we did. I can't run a factory reset to it either, since it will wipe the progress. If I back them up, I'm soon back to the current situation again where I restore some setting that messes things up.

The thing I'm basicly asking here is, if anyone else is suffering from the tablet constantly crashing? I haven't seen it crashing once while using it. It crashes while it's lying idle on the coutch. The next time we pick it up, it's unresponsive. After a reboot it has battery left, so that's not it either.

From what I can gather from your responses is then 2 options. If no one else has a crashing tablet, I'll go for a reset and hope it fixes it. If you do have, then it might be a hardware / software problem which will not get fixed by a reset.

A reset is what we would suggest you try first. If after a complete reset and before installing any apps, test the tablet for a day or so and try to duplicate the crashing. If it does not crash, chances are it was caused by an app or other software issue. If it still crashes after a reset, we recommend service at that point. For assistance with that please contact the Acer service location for your region: https://www.acer.com/worldwide/

Hi. Tried a factory reset but had to install a half a dozen games for the intended user Smiley Wink Still crashes. I guess I have to borrow the thing for a longer period to verify what you told me: try to keep it up without installing anything.

Ok. After now having the tablet for a year, we've pretty much had it. There hasn't been a day we haven't had to keep the power button down and cold start it.

We took it in for "repair" at our retailer. Before that we ran a factory reset to it. They said they ran youtube videos on it for 10 hours without it crashing. And they deemed it being ok.

As we brought the tablet home, and battery got drained on usage, it began suffering the sleep of deaths again. Next morning it had to be cold booted again. I guess they had tested the tablet with 100% battery and a USB cord plugged in for the 10 hours. I'm betting they ignored me telling that it suffers from SOD.

Anyway. Recently I've noticed the tablet's screen becoming discolored when the battery is below a third or so. A half an hour ago I picked it up again. Battery showing 19%. After 2 minutes of use, it says battery low 15%. After a minute it died and shut down. I've noticed this happening quite often recently. And on top of that I recharged it to 100% just last night. And as it had died after that, there shouldn't have been anything draining the battery since.

Oh well. Since my retailer doesn't see anything wrong with it, I think this plate is ready for some target practise? I don't really want to keep fighting another year with this.

Good news! I met an Acer sales person at a local store here. He told me to just ship the tablet over to them instead of the retailer's support that didn't find anything wrong with it. I got a case number and sent it over. After a few days I received an email saying that they began working on it. 2 days later the next email arrived telling me that they are shipping it back already. When it arrived it came with a note telling me that initial tests showed the mother board being broken and that they replaced it. They also ran tests against it and it seem to work now. And I have to say that after using it a month now, it actually works like a charm! Like the tablet I should have had for a year. Not a single crash or SOD. I would never have imagined...

Spring 2018 I again had problems. The battery died very quickly. I sent it to Acer support in April and they told me that the battery had in fact gone very bad. So they replaced it. I used the tablet a few times and all seemed OK'ish. Mostly we played minecraft with it once in two to three weeks. So it had very little use and I had no idea if it really worked or not. Now during christmas I had more time to really use and investigate the tablet. It seemed to drain battery 30% - 50% a day. It had location services on for example, so I disabled that and decided to try the drain. After 2 hours of idle, it crashed. So I guess I'm back to having something wrong with the hardware. Needless to say, I'm done with this.

Hah! Found my old tablet and decided to try to boot it. Well...it's stuck at boot logo...surprise surprise. Googled a bit, and seems i'm definitely not alone with that problem either. Counting all the problem I've had, and what problems people have with different Acer products, including monitors which i was googling at recently, it seems this whole brand is full of problems and nothing else.
