I'm trying to update the bios on my XC-603. The current bios is: P11-B0 but it has a build date different to the date listed for this verison of the bios on the Acer support page:

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/5174;-;Aspire%20XC-603

Anyway, I tried to flash wihin windows the v. P11.B2 and when I run the file the utility runs a check and then halts with error message "ROM size does not match the existing BIOS size".

The machine is an XC-603 and I used the page for this machine to download the file, so how and why am I getting this error?

Thanks in advance!

This behavior is confirmed on two different XC-603 boxes - ROM file size doesn't match!

Also the Flash.bat file doesn't seem to do anything, when it is double clicked a window opens and it instantly closes.

It seems the wrong files are provided on the Acer site!

Surely the latest BIOS for your machine is...P11.B4L

BIOS   Change Setup default setting to meet Non-Windows BIOS request

Date: 2015/11/11  Version: P11.B4L Vendor: Acer Size: 3.1 MB

It is certainly dated later than B0; and it is the second in the list on the page you linked too.

    don't flash B4L version!!!

that version is only for NON-windows machines, L = Linux!!!

can you please try to flash B4 instead of B2, since it's the latest:

    Apologies

If I had seen this  image then I would not have been so rash.

Why is the bios for Linux. Isn't the BIOS software that is operating system independent, a lower level concerned with the system architecture?

the Linux version doesn't contain SLIC table for windows licensing and has some tweaks to be able to boot some distros.

I tried the B$ file as instructed and I still get the ROM file doesn't match the BIOS error message...

not good, the only thing that can prevent to flash B4 to B0 is a different motherboard revision...

i will try to find more infos, hang tight.

    quick question:

did you extract all the files or you run the bat file from the zip?

I downloaded the zip, unpacked it to a usb drive, plugged it into the Acer, copied the files to the c drive and then ran the flash utility.

    Hello @spacebiscuit

I’m sorry that you’re having difficulty upgrading the BIOS on your unit.  Have you tried right clicking the flash .bat file and running it as an administrator?  If that doesn’t work, can you please send me a PM with the S/N # so I can look into this for you?

    Thanks!

I've just installed Ubuntu/Debian on the box so the .bat file is not an option now I presume?
