    1. Go to Playback Devices.

    2. Double click Speakers.

    3. Go to Advanced tab.

    4. Uncheck "Allow Applications to Take Control of this Device".

Thank you! Just noticed this happening recently and couldn't figure it out.

Edit: Nevermind I unchecked it but it still gets disabled. Any ideas?

Edit 2: Okay I tested it out more and it seemed to work fine for some games, with Elite Dangerous it still gets disabled.

I'm not sure if this might work but try opening control panel, click Hardware and Sound, click Sound, and in the Communications Tab click on Do Nothing. If this works, you might have a VOiP app open while gaming.

EDIT: You can also try disabling Cortana and see if that works.

This cannot be fixed, it is a dolby audio issue. Everytime you play a game that has some kind of voice communication/connects to VoIP, dolby audio will turn off by itself and has to be turned on manually. Same goes for skype, teamspeak etc.

Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.
