DustDefender turning on during game

I have normally excellent temps on G9-593 (ultra settings for most games hovering under/around 58-62C) but I've noticed during long gaming sessions that I get these alarmingly high spikes in both GPU and CPU temps.  The load % and clock speeds are constant during these temp spikes, and the temp spikes last 10 seconds or less.  We're talking a jump from 60 to 71C for GPU here and similar for CPU.


I used Process Explorer to check for any rogue processes and there were none during these spikes.  The only thing I can think of (because today it happened exactly 3 hours apart) is Dustdefender coming on WHILE i'm playing, because the system is not under heavy load (20-40% for CPU max, 40-60% for GPU on average), because I can actually simulate the temperature spikes with it if I turn it on while I'm in a game.

 

Is there any way to turn off the "automatic" part of Dustdefender?  I'd like to be able to use it manually but not have it come on automatically if it's going to behave stupidly under Windows 10.

    Hi,

    The default setting seems automatic but you could try turning it off in Acer Quick Access program.

    Unfortunately I have already tried that.  The utility doesn't allow you to disable it, just to use it manually.  I'm trying to find a way to keep the other features of Acer Quick Access while having Dustdefender set to manual or uninstalled completely.  Really would like to keep Coolboost and Bluelight protection.

    When your system is not under heavy load, the dust defender will turn on automatically. I don't understand what is the point of disabling it, as it only takes about 30 seconds. If you play very demanding games dust defender won't acrivate automatically as it can damage your componets because of excessive heat and while under heavy load it won't even let you activate it manually.

    Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

    Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

    It depends on what games you are playing. 

    Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:

    -Operating system

    A hacky way to do this:
    Try going to acer quick access install folder.
    There should be an app by name dust defender or something similar.
    Rename it from exe to something else, say bak.
    Restart.
    This should help with your situation.

    Strange. It keeps turning on for me, while I am playing games that are heavy on performance...
