Hi, I have an Acer Aspire TC-605 URD2 desktop with 12 GB of RAM. I read that I have only 2 slots, and my maximum RAM is 16 GB. If this is true, I assume I have one 8 GB stick and one 4 GB stick?? I went to this webiste called cruciall.com, and this is what they said TC-605 needs:

Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 UDIMM

Is this true? How do I verify what type of RAM I need and how many slots I have? Why is there nothing in the user manual about this? Dell and HP had a complete section about upgrading RAM in theirs.

    Hello,

Your desktop is equipped with two memory slots and the current memory amount is 8+4 so 12Gb. The original modules are Hynix or Kingston. It supports up to 16Gb - DDR3 (1.5V) - 1600MHz (2x8Gb). I suggest you this memory module to replace the 4Gb one. DDR3L works under 1.35V and 1.5V (DDR3). FYI, you own an Aspire TC-605-UR2D and not -URD2.

PS: I'm not an Acer employee but just an user like you.

laurent_14: Thank you so much! I would not have known what to buy otherwise! I am so happy users like you exist. :-)

EDIT: I found the RAM for $9 cheaper on amazon! It is SODIMM 204-Pin, not UDIMM, but I think it will be the same.

    Amazon SODIMM RAM - $52.99

and here is UDIMM on amazon for $54.95:

    amazon UDIMM RAM - $54.95

Which should I get? Is SODIMM the same as UDIMM?

    Hello,

They are different. UDIMM is used for the desktops and SODIMM for the laptops and some all-in-ones.

I prefer you check your current memory modules as this model was shipped with DDR3 or DDR3L modules. You can use this little monitor to find the brand and the part numbers in the SPD tab: CPU-Z zipped version (no installation).

Hi, thanks so much laurent_14! That is a wonderful program. These are my results:

    cpu-z - spd acer aspire t-605 ur2d.gif

It looks like I have DDR3??

    Hello,

A little lesson about the memory specifications: Smiley Happy

    • DDR3 only works under 1.5V (volt)
    • DDR3L works under 1.35V and 1.5V

If you look at the voltage value of your screenshot, this one is 1.35V so DDR3L. My advise: As Samsung memory is a good brand, I suggest you to buy the same module than the current one so M471B1G73DB0-YK0.

Laurent: you are amazing! I wish I knew as much as you. Plus, you found an even lower price! I  agree--I love Samsung. The screenshot said ""DDR" on top, so I assumed that's what it was, but I was wrong.

Uh oh...there is a problem.  I looked at the amazon RAM and was going to buy it, but:

    "Samsung 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz CL11 Chip Notebook Memory M471B1G73DB0-YK0"

It says "notebook memory". Therefore it may kust be for notebooks/laptops, and not desktops?

    Hello,

I'm sorry. Smiley Embarassed You are right, this memory module is for laptops or all-in-ones. Hmmm strange!

    1. Does the CPU-Z screenshot come from your Aspire TC-605?
    2. Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

Hi Laurent, you know, I ust realized I am a fool! I just assumed I was on my Acer deskptop when I was using my laptop on the road; which is a Toshiba Satellite! So that screenshot is from my Toshiba. I can't believe I did that. I knew the Samsung RAM had to be too good for my Acer, lol.

Unfortuanetly, I won't be back home to run the CPU-Z on my Acer until Thursday night.

Here are the first 10 digits my Acer serial number: DTSRQAA033.

Ugh. I am sorry for this.

No problem! Smiley Wink Now I understand the mistake. Smiley Very Happy and don't worry you are not the only one. In this case, you'll post the right screenshot on Friday. You should see normally Hynix or Kingston UDIMM memory modules (desktop).

    Good road!

Well, I'm a little late, but here is the screenshot from CPU-Z for my Acer Aspire TC-605 UR2D desktop:

    cpu-z spd acer desktop 2017-06-30.gif

It looks like I have DDR-3L RAM made by Hyundai (I would have preferred the Samsung ones, lol! :-)  ).

    Hello,

FYI, Hyunday Electronic is SK hynix so Hynix memory. As you want to upgrade the memory amount to 16Gb, I'd like to see the screenshot of the 2nd slot (Slot #2= module of 8Gb). You can select Slot #1 or Slot #2. As this brand is ramdomly comptabile with the other ones, it would be better to buy the same one (8+8=16Gb).

PS: It's never too late. Smiley Happy

Hi Laurent, yes, here is a screenshot for Slot 2:

    cpu-z spd acer desktop slot2-2017-07-02.gif

Thank you for being so kind and petient with this thread and my questions!

EDIT: I can't seem to find Hynix brand RAM on amazon, other than SO-DIMM. I might have to get the brand below instead, by Crucial, unless I can find Hynix elsewhere. I will look!
