Hello, guys, I'd like to ask you a question regarding an issue I've been having.
This is not my first Acer product. Before getting this, I purchased a Black Label edition featuring a GeForce 960M. And even then, I would always notice this high pitched noise coming from the laptop, even under small to no load at all.
This time, with this Predator unit, I went ahead and figured out the noise was coming from the CPU/GPU region. What makes me think it comes specifically from the GPU is the fact that, when enabling/disabling the GSync through the Nvidia menu, in the meantime (about 5s) it takes to enable/disable, the noise vanishes, and comes back as soon as it has finished enabling/disabling.
I've done some research and came across this Intel new feature, called "Overspeed protection", that would limit the power being supplied to the CPU in order to avoid damage to it due to excessive overclocking. However, I'm positive this noise comes from the GPU.
As I said above, the noise is present even when the laptop isn't under any load at all, like idle on the desktop. Also, and this is interesting, it somehow is linked to the speakers, because, for instance, if I plug/unplug a USB device, the characteristic sound that windows plays will turn up the high pitched noise even louder for its duration. It works with any sound, even error sounds from windows.
What could this be? I'd rather not return this unit like I returned the previous black edition. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you guys!
