Aspire S7-391, keyboard backlight stopped working

My S7's keyboard backlight stopped working.  It's just always off.  Nothing happens when I press Fn+I or Fn+U.  Every other Fn key works.

Before I take it back to be serviced, is there a chance that this is a software issue?  Is there a way to check?

I'm not optimistic, though.  I've installed all updates from Live Updater and Windows Update.  I've updated the BIOS to version 2.13 from the Acer S7 page.  I've even tried a Windows 8 refresh.  No luck.  Just thought I'd ask first in case there's a simple solution.

The backlight on the S7 is also controlled by a light sensor.  I would make sure that you are in a dark room (give the unit a minuten to adjust) and then try the Fn keys.

It doesn't turn on even if it's really dark.  Is there a utility program that can force the keyboard backlight to turn on?  I can live with manual controls of the keyboard backlight.

There is not a utility to control it.  I would contact your Acer Service team to do a final bit of troubleshooting, but it sounds like it would need to be serviced to correct that issue.

Same issue here.  Completely dark room, screen brightness turned to minimum and the keyboard will not illuminate.

I broke down and sent mine back for repair.  Acer tech support (prior to sending back) asked that I completely reformat.  I did, but no fix.  Here's to hoping the unit comes back repaired!

    Hello Traida

did you have to pay for sending back your laptop or they paid for the shipping?

any other failure that you have had besides the keyboard?

I was responsible for shipping and insurance to Acer but they are going to cover the return shipping. There was no charge for the service as the unit was still under mfg warranty. Now I just hope it is fixed!
