Hi,

I have a Acer Iconia W4-820 tab that is bricked now. It was running Win 10. It is out of warranty. Need your help to recover it.

What happened:

I had mirrored the tab display on to my TV wirelessly (using Roku stick) and left it in this state. I guess the tab went to sleep and probably battery ran out. After that the tab never came up even after charging fully.

Problem symptoms:

The tab does not boot. I dont even see the Acer logo. When I try to power up using the power button, the LED blinks green and stops. Tried the reset pin, no reponse. Tried to enter BIOS menu using vol up+power, doesn't even enter BIOS menu. But the LED keeps blinking green. If the press and hold the power button at this point, the LED turns off. Screen remains black all the while. LED turns red if I connect the charger, turns green after fully charged. So, other than the LED there is no response at all.

What I tried:

I followed suggestions for similar problem on different forums and tried a few of them. Tried to boot off a bootable USB (tried with Free DOS and Win 8.1) but no luck. Tried to repair BIOS using a couple of different methods by downloading the BIOS firmware from Acer site and copying it on to the USB, but nothing helped. Have also tried connecting to the TV through HDMI cable and powering on.

Looking forward to any final suggestions before I decide to give up on this. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It does sound pretty broken, in most cases you have to be able to get at least into the BIOS to do diagnostics. You can try getting the battery to run down by turning it on and leaving it overnight, then plugging it in to charge. Once it's had a couple of hours on the charger you can try again to boot it normally. That might work if it's just a really confused OS that thinks it's recovering from sleep.

I gave your suggestion a try, that did not help either. Thanks for responding though.

Next step is to tear it down so you can fully disconnect the battery and at the same time check all connections. With the battery disconnected press and hold the power button to make sure the electricity is bled dry. Verify especially that the display connection and the internal power connection is good then reassemble and try to bring it up again. If you can't get any farther after that it is likely time for a new tablet. Smiley Sad
