Does the E5-575-52JF (i5-6200u CPU) support a m.2 nvme drive?

Is there a specific version of BIOS required?

    Thanks brummyfan2!

Anyone - thoughts of NVMe connection only PCIe 3.0 x2  width versus 3.0 x4  .... roughly half the performance?

Anyone install a Samsung 960 EVO 256, MyDigitalSSD BPx 240, or Plextor M8Pe 256 successfully? any issues?

    Hi,

Yes, you can, your English is better than my French, so no need to apologiseSmiley Wink

EDIT: Could you please post the HWiNFO64 snip of that PCI Express Port expanded and showing the Maximum Link width Speeds, if you can, expand all the Ports, I would like to check why the speed showing as 5.0GT/s.

    Hi,

Sorry, your CPU will not support a NVMe SSD, NVMe SSD uses PCIe 3.0x4  you have version 2.0Smiley Sad

Can you please guide me if I have to use NVME or Sata 3 SSD?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Yes, you can use NVMe SSD or SATA M.2 SSD, both will work, you will not notice the difference between them but NVMe fares better only when you transfer large files, NVMe will work at half the speed advertised by the manufacturers, still 3x the SATA III drive.

    hi
    1. "Current Link Width " : Is this HWindfo64 available for Linux? How do i get this "current link width "dataitem in linux for PCI devices in linux?
From lshw i dont see the above data ..any suggestions?
    2. btw my latop mode is E5-575-50RM one. Can i assume all E15 series models have provision for m.2 SSD slot first of all
    thx in advance

    Hi,
Could you please check whether your model is E5-575G, if so, yes you can install NVMe SSD but make sure that your Maximum Link width has the value of at least 2x.

    Hi,
I am not familiar with Linux, you may have to wait for someone who is familiar with Linux systems to answer, sorry.
As for the second question, yes you have a slot for M.2 SSD.

    Thanks for reply.
i found out "current link width " data item for PCI root port/devices from "lspci -vv" command which gives verbose details.
i paste the those lines below for the 3 PCI bridge hardware sections/items in the output for you to see if you can give your thoughts/inputs on capabilities.

00:1d.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Device 9d18 (rev f1) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode])
    ...
    LnkCap: Port #9, Speed 8GT/s, Width x2, ASPM L0s L1, Exit Latency L0s unlimited, L1 <4us
    ...

00:1d.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Device 9d1a (rev f1) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode])
    ...
    LnkCap: Port #11, Speed 8GT/s, Width x1, ASPM L1, Exit Latency L0s <1us, L1 <16us
    ....

00:1d.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Device 9d1b (rev f1) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode])
    ...
    LnkCap: Port #12, Speed 8GT/s, Width x1, ASPM L1, Exit Latency L0s <1us, L1 <16us
    .....

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
You need to find out about the Port 9, which CPU installed in your laptop?
