Ok i just bought w511 yesterday and so far im quite impressed,
Being able to run full win 8 is certainly a major advantage compared to android / ios
its a bit expensive though,
i picked it up for about 800$ without the keyboard here in Indonesia.
Been playing arpund with it since yesterday, fortunately i havent spotted the problems mentioned here, the speaker seems to be fine,
the wifi ocassionally disconnected, but after firmware update it seems to be gone.
still waiting for the keyboard to arrive, ill update it here if i got the touchpad problem

Also, i got a few questions,

1. Anyone know a decent navigation software for windows 8 ? i tried sygic fleet but it wont detect the built in gps..
w511 is supposed to have gnss, is it different with gps found in other tablets?
this is the only thing i miss from my galaxy tab..

2. Whats the best method to run win xp? i tried vmware player,set the hdd at 10 gb (even though it recommends 40 gb)and install it on class 10 sdcard, but its too sluggish to be usable

any other recommendations to run win xp on this tablet? dual boot maybe?

    Yeah that was my question about the GPS when i got it !! It says AGPS in the Manual the support rep said it meant assisted as in better than regualr GPS ...Yet I found not in BING MAPS or Google Maps could properly find my loction it was alwasy pin pointing me with in a 6 km radius!   There is even GPS software for the Broadcom Modem thats built in deep within the C: drive in a hidden folder Preload/DVR yet when you try to install it it quickly closes out after alomst complete and says error .yada yada not found ...I'm assuming Acer cheaped out and didn't install the GPS or this AGPS isn't GPS at all!  or Maybe the GPS is only with the W510 sim model that has yet to reach North America and currently only with German Providers but will be with T-Mobile or Verizion one of the 2 very soon

    Any confirmation from acer regarding this gps matter?

    i wouldnt mind if it just lacks proper driver, it could be fixed with an update or patch

    but if it lacks the needed hardware then its a serious problem because we are promised AGPS

    As near as I can tell, any letter in front of "GPS" means it is not really there. There are really two answers on Amazon, either Microsoft Street & Trips or Delorme Street Atlas 2013 both can be had with a UPS GPS sensor for under $50. Both do a good job but I like Delorme better except that it is so bog slow to load.

    Both load the big stuff on either the tablet of an SD card, neither needs access to the Web for navigation. Of course I am in the US, outside you may need to look elsewere but  the later revision of a BU-353 works well with a W510.

    i read agps meant assisted ...Acer said it meant faster than regular Gps and that was from a tier 2 tech support still why bother having a broadcom Gps folder and software setup if there is no onboard gps ?

    @padgett

    thanks but i couldnt find similar software for Indonesia..

    I've already solved the xp problem using vbox + win 7 xp mode trick from lifehacker..

    Unfortunately the program that i want still doesnt run properly... oh well... Smiley Sad

    It's just GPS problem now...

    A-GPS =/= GPS?

    I hope one of Acer's technician could explain it to us..

    AGPS is as much a true GPS as it can be, the difference is that AGPS is aided when locating the satellites making AGPS faster to show your location than a standard GPS.

    A good usage for this is when you can have your GPS function turned off and realtively quick get your location where as a nonassisted GPS will take longer and thus making it less feasible to have the function turned off.

    But to get the assisted function you requier a network, mobile carriers, to help you, but the actual GPS function is not contingent on that.

    AGPS by itself is not equal to be a lesser GPS in that sence, the difference that there may be in the chipset in it self much like one manufacturer of a GPS module may be better than the other.

    So there can not be any special Acer kind of AGPS that doesn't include the actual GPS functionality, so if the customer rep states it have AGPS then it have a GPS if not then the rep is lying about your tablet containing AGPS. (No ignorance is not an actual excuse.)

    @erephus : thanks for the explanation..

    I've found the answer

    http://www.eightforums.com/tablet-touch/19389-asus-vivo-tab-smart.html

    w511 and vivotab use the same chip, broadcomm

    Broadcomm based GPS is not supported yet by alot of maps...

    So either we will have to wait for the compatible version, or use usb gps...

    Sorry but my W510 does not have either the RECOVERY option "reinstall app" or any BROADCOM file in c:\OEM other than WIFI, BT, and NFC.

    @Aeon :

    Yes, it does have GNSS geolocation sensor under sensors category.

    I've tried repairing the GNSS installation but unfortunatel garmin still won't detect it..

    Haven't tried google maps, cause actually i want a complete GPS application (Garmin/Sygic) to work.

    I got it for $800 here in Indonesia (with the sleeve), with the keyboard it''s around $950

    @Padgett : Perhaps its because you have w510, not w511?

    Hmm i don't see Dolby digital on the side...

    Thanks but i don't think we can test the gps using that program because it only covers US and canada..

    Any response from Acer technician about this matter?

    Is there a patch planned for this?

    I will keep looking for information about broadcomm gps, hopefully there will be a patch soon available

    @denywinarto:

    I use 'GPS Satellite' app on my w511 and the GPS works! You should try it too.

    A total bummer that the GPS doesn't work with Google Maps, but I wonder that it'll maybe work if one use a sim card with running data plan. Just like using a Blackberry with full data service.
