Hello,

I have an Acer E13 ES1-311 that won't turn on anymore.

When I push the power button, the blue light starts flashing at the laptop begins making a not too loud beeping sound intermittently.

I tried resetting the battery by pushing the battery reset button and it didn't work.

Then I proceeded to remove the bottom cover of the laptop, unplugged the battery for a few seconds, plugged it back in and same problem.

Then I tried turning the laptop on with the battery unplugged and only the AC plugged in, same result.

Then I tried resitting the RAM module. No luck.

Also tried resitting the BIOS battery. No luck.

Any other ideas on what might be causing this issue?

Thank you!

    Hello!

I have some ideas for you, but you forget to write what happend with the machine for the last time.
    Sorry because my poor english!

    1. try to take out the HDD from your laptot (not too difficult!) and try the boot without HDD

    2. if the machine can not boot without HDD (I do not think, but....),than make a bios reset (you must look, how can you do it on your laptop, because for a bios reset on some machines must take out the CMOS battery, but on some machines  you can find a little hole,or hidden button for this, so this is variable

    3. after the first two step your laptop must to boot, if not, than I think you have a hardware failure, brokened chipset or other and in this case apply for a service

    4. if after the first two step, your machine can boot up, than the problem is with the HDD or SSD (bad sectors or a brokend system install or other). You can try to repair it with the help of this machine or with an other machine or buy a new one (HDD,SSD), but only one year old because I don't think that is not repairable.

I you would like to repair  than you have to look some CD,DVD or USB bootable live linux distro (this live linux must have Gparted or other partitioner application) or have to look some CD or DVD or USB bootable partitioner application (for example Partition Wizard Free, Gparted live or look  some on the https://distrowatch.com) and you need and external USB HDD or you have to buy an empty "box"(maybe is wrap) of external USB HDD

    5. you have to take your old HDD into this empty "box" of external HDD

    6. boot up your laptop or the other machine with the live linux distro  or other partitioner distro or some rescue disc and when the boot is ready, connect the external USB HDD (your old HDD already is in)

    7. after that the system recognized your old HDD, you must mount and delete the old volumes  with a   partitioner application and make new msdos partition table and make an NTFS primary partition for entire disk

    8. after these steps you can take back the HDD or SSD into the machine and setup again your bios. But now you must to make a slow (important!) format on your old HDD some different methods are for this for examples: boot from an old windows xp installer CD and with this ,or boot from other windows installer DVD and from command line make a slow format, this is your choice. Maybe you have to format more times. Ones my machine got an attack and this made a lot of sector error on my HDD and I could repair that with some slow format.

I hope, that I could help for You!

     Hello FreeBSD,

Thank you so much for your answer.

My apologies for not replying earlier, I was out travelling on a business trip and couldn't get to this before.

I have tried removing the HDD, unfortunately still does not boot so I guess it is indeed a hardware failure.

Unfortunately the laptop doesn't have valid warranty anymore. What do you think it is? motherboard failure?

In that case I'm afraid the laptop is useless since getting a new motherboard will probably be more expensive than buying a new laptop? Smiley Mad

    Thanks for your help!

Acer laptops are notorious for needing a functional battery even when plugged in. Used to be you could go into bios and change status to ignore battery but over caution of battery fires had manufactures disable that option. I would unplug the battery from system then while not plugged in press and hold power button for turning on several secs. Wait a few mins more, plug battery back in and then start charging cycle. Observe the charging status led lights, give it at least 15 mins to start charging then see if powers up. Like a dead iPhone battery, has to have some power before it actual will start up. See if that gets it to turn on. Even if it does, the battery stills needs a good charge till real use. I doubt motherboard just dead tho you fail to mentioned how when what before this issue occurred.

    Hi Trukntigger,

    Thank you for your response.

I have already tried unplugging the battery.

The charging cycle seems normal. As soon as I turn on the laptop it begins making a not too loud beeping sound, then fan spins for a few seconds and then it stops. Then it tries to power on again automatically, beeping sound continues and fan tries to start again.

When I unplugged the HDD the beeping sound stopped, but the laptop still won't turn on.

This issue started ocurring out of the blue. The first time this issue presented itself I was able to start the laptop by resetting the battery by using a paper clip on the back of the laptop.

Then the laptop worked fine for a few more months until now.

    Thanks!

How long have you this laptop? You mention battery reset had it working few more months, thinking like I said, battery failure. If not in mfg warranty anymore I'd risk purchase of a new battery, otherwise contact Acer for warranty service of system.
