G9-793-78CM: GSync, or not? Audible noise without VSync ok?

I recently purchased a G9-793-78CM from Amazon. I'm generally happy with the product, however, if I turn on GSync (via the GeForce control panel), but leave VSync off, for any reason, an audible (not earsplitting, but audible) noise comes out of the laptop (note: not the screen). I was a little concerned that I might have had a defective unit, so I contacted Predator support, via the support card that came with the unit.

After about ten minutes, the tech on the other end kindly advised me that while the laptop was "GSync enabled," the monitor that came with the unit was not. This came as quite a surprise to me, since the advertisement on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Gaming-GeForce-G9-793-78CM/dp/B01LD4MKQI/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1489175012&sr=1-1&keywords=G9-793-78CM

...makes repeated references that the laptop's screen does, indeed, have GSync (i.e. "17.3" Full HD (1920 x 1080) widescreen IPS display with NVIDIA G-SYNC technology," not "GTX 1070 which can do GSync if you connect it to a monitor that supports it"). Similarly, it was my understanding that if "set up gsync" appears in the NVidia control panel, then you've got a display device capable of doing GSync. And it's there (I have a desktop with a 1060 which is not connected to a GSync monitor, and there are no options for turning on GSync. This would seem to make sense).

To be honest, I sincerely hope that the tech- who was nice, and clearly well-intentioned (to drop this kind of bomb on me)- is very much in error, because if not, then what's being advertised on Amazon is out-and-out false.

If the monitor does have GSync, is it normal to hear an audible, mild, buzzing noise coming from the unit under the "GSync is on, but VSync is off" situation? Whenever I turn on VSync, the noise goes away. I don't think it's the graphics card's fans, since it didn't make this noise when being seriously tested with things like 3DMark. But go back to NVidia's control panel, and turn off VSync in windows, and... noise.

Any and all advice is appreciated; thanks to the community in advance for your collective assistance on my behalf.
