G9-593 Battery Life?

Hello,

I'm new to laptops but have owned high end smartphones for many years - currently Galaxy S6.

I have conventional layperson understanding of Li-ion battery characteristics - ie. not good to discharge them too low etc. - but I've always thought keeping them topped as much/often as possible was a good thing.

With my new Predator 15:

Is 22% battery after 1 hour 10 minutes (from full charge) normal?

That's just browsing the internet and doing some file copying etc.

Also, the official information regarding looking after battery performance is TOTALLY contradictory!! - it says that for best battery life use mains power as much as possible - but then below that it says being constantly connected to mains is bad for the battery... (headscratch)

Can anyone shed light or offer experienced and knowledgeable advice on whether it sounds like my battery is ok (I do understand this laptop is a power hungry beast) - and/or advice on whether being plugged into mains - which is pretty much 99% of my usage mode - is going to kill my battery??

Thank you in advance :-)

I always keep my power cord pluged in when i use my laptop for no matter what reason. This laptop is meant to be used while charging, because:

1st - its battery life is too short.

2nd - while not on charger you can't utilize all its power. You can use about 50% of its potential.

3rd - for 17x users, you can't overclock it while not charging.

4th - all 3 above combined, you can't play games unless you have your laptop charging(unless you want your games to run with half the fps). Not to mention that you can't even play high end games while not on charger.

Conclusion: The laptop is meant to be used this way(pluged-in). Or may be not, it might be very bad for the battery, as the laptop keeps draining from it, even while pluged-in. This means that battery keeps charging and discharging at the same time. I personally think that with every charging the battery's lifetime becomes worse and worse a bit by a bit. But because the way the laptop is used, acer might have thought of something that will not affect battery's life much no matter how many times it's been charged a day, or working while charging.

Forgot to write: I think 22% for 1hour and 10min is normal, considering that gtx1070 requires a lot of power. But the charging time will improve when the laptop is off or idle.

Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. All I can do is make sure the battery indicator is Red (fullcharge) before powering on with mains - at a guess I'd say that's what they mean about using mains as much as possible but it could be worded a bit clearer.

It's a bit nuts how the manual the way it reads directly contradicts itself by saying in one paragraph that running constantly off mains can harm the battery, then in another it says to use mains as much as possible to protect the battery... (crazyeyes).

Sounds wrong if you ask me.

On my g9-793 I get about 2 hours for 50% drain with light use.

notebookcheck, they also report better battery times.

I've been meaning to post back for days now - I did three "calibration" cycles and now with normal net surfing or watching movies I am getting about 2 hours or so to 50% indication.  Gaming drags it down more quickly but nowhere near as drastically as it was originally.

When running off mains I don't turn it on unless / until the battery charge indicator is red (full charge). With this machine I'm fortunate in that the power supply is keeping up with even intensive gaming.

I'm also very fortunate that the CPU and GPU temps are running at VERY good temps! (I've seen scary posts about other Predators and temps) ie. - with system temp of maybe 47*C, under load the CPU runs at maybe 78*C and the GPU at about 68*C - and just net surfing the CPU is maybe 2 degrees higher than system and GPU is same or slightly below system.

The high CPU temp is a known issue, if you read the other posts here.

Me and a few other solved it by using a betther thermal paste and undervolting the CPU a bit.
